There is nothing called Loyality in Corporate World
by Pankaj Khapre on Apr 02, 2007 09:48 AM

In today's world, there is no space for loyality. Its a pure professional world. No company can keep an employee happy because the employees always feel that the grass is greener on the other side. There comes the Hoping which a very hot trend these days in India. especially in IT or ITES. So, every company should have a back up plan ready to face a situation when a Loyal employee or a Key employee puts his/her papers.

What makes an employee loyal ?
by Rahul Oberoi on Apr 02, 2007 08:50 AM

Ummm........ lets see multiple scenarios. Obviously one size doesn't fit all.

- The employee is so pathetic that he doesn't get any interesting opportunity else. So he/she becomes "loyal" to the comapny and suckers upto his/her boss. And ofcourse the "rewards" follow.

- A lot of employees leave becoz they are disgruntled with their bosses and favoritism.

- Hard workers often remain that. hard workers and not promoted. After all if he is promoted, who will do that work while the boss takes the credit for getting the work done.

- Please recognise that all companies are not the Yahoo's or IBM's or P & G's with a definitive employee welfare plan. The HR bosses writing here would be plain surprised to see how the majority of Indian employees just manage to keep afloat at work for a salary that barely pays their rent.

- Appraisal - Who says the best people get the best raises. And the reverse - the best ass lickers always do not get the best raise but do get good raises. Wouldnt you change if you were in his shoes ?

- The hotshots - the children of a superior god - the IITians and IIm's and other bigger institute boys - agreed that they start off at a higher scale. But at the end of the year, when a child of a lesser god surpasses the results of these superior god's and are still bypassed becoz the IIT/IIM' fellows boss also happens to be from the same institute, it does create heartburns.

- Ofcourse - lucrative offers from newbie industries with fantastic growth options.

- And last but not the least - offers from companies like Tata's where the salary may nit be huge but the perks definitely are worth considering if a person cares for his family and wants a slightly slower life.

Whatcha say guys ?

Employers pay just enough so that employees don't switch over. And employees work just enough so that they are not laid off.

Is this loyality ?
by abc sjja on Mar 30, 2007 01:03 PM

My friend narrated this to me.

He works as junior executive in MNC, Mumbai.
When he got married, his team manager and PM didn't attained it but next month when two senior people from same team got married, the same PM and team manager were present at the marraige.

This is trivial thing but shows clear sign of not treating all team member equal.

this topic we as a HR person always discuss with so many people and we do read so many articals which appear in newspaper, books, magazine.but one thing we learn that you may give all the good facility to the persons who works with you but they will find something
which is not logical and to be very honest they do not deserve.we personally feel that it should come
from inner that with our knowledge and experience
we are getting the best.and lastly people should
work honestly(if working 8hrs.they should give their full energy )the day people will feel that we are working honestly, they will identified by the management, will get good jump and will be loyal to the organisation.if you are not loyal i request please see the mirrer once.

Kamlesh, in India, we work our hearts out and in the end, we are told that ok, we did well, but what we did was only BAU.
.
Companies here have a hundred excuses NOT to give a sufficient raise - boss, these companies are giving raises less than the inflation rate (to its top performers).
.
Going by your logic, shouldn't the company think that given the circumstances and ability, this is the best employee it can get???
.
Companies say, don't work for money. Money is not everything. Then, will the CEO of the company be ready to exchange his salary with the juniormost employee?

HRs are double standard hypocrites. When same policy, culture, work env, salary, dignity and respect isn't available across the globe for same kinda work, why the hell will people stick. I have seen less attrition in Truely GLOBAL companies.

Non technical managers for techinal persons!!!!
by Gaurav Shrivastava on Mar 30, 2007 01:39 AM

Well can any one justify making non techical person managers for techincal person?
What are they doing to all good technical resource?
This can happen in any sector when person without knowledge or capablities is made lead for a team.
I am pointing out the wrong HR polices by which they makes WRONG persons as MANAGERS for hard working people.

Are the companies Loyal to Employees?
by Sreenath Reddy on Mar 29, 2007 04:01 PM  | Hide replies

I think we need to ask the question otherway also. Are the companies Loyal to the employees?

Are the companies giving the possible fasilities to the Employes.. without employees asking them?
I am not asking employee facilities which a company cannot afford. But things which are afforded by the company. How many companies ask the employee, if your chair is good enough to sit? Because an Employee is going to sit in that for 30 to 40 years.. if he or she going to be Loyal to the company.

This looks silly and simple but it makes lot of positive feeling in the Employees. There are several more facilities which makes Employees feel good for the company. I think if companies start thinking these terms.. they need not worry about retaining Employees. They stay automatically with the companies.
Are the companies providing the
- Right salary without crying during the apraisal?
- Right Lunch and Dinner facilities without showing dissatisfaction?
- Right travel facilities to pickup and drop at home?
- Right office timing?

When they happen Employees become loyal. I think salary is not criteria to consider for Employee loyalty.

A company which provides all above, may still have employess leaving the company for Money. But really it is better for company if such employees leave the company.

I totally agree with you - your complete mail is very good with points.
.
In fact, by giving the employee a salary JUST LESS THAN HE DESERVED, the company is actually pushing the thought of disloyalty to it in the mind of the employee.

It does not work
by SatyaKumarRao Dronamraju on Mar 29, 2007 03:11 PM  | Hide replies

These concepts are good to hear , but does not work. I had worked for ECIL , which has it's own colony in AS Rao Nagar , Hyderabad. The good people still left that company. In fact many people were sick of seeing and interacting with the same set of people both at work & home that they started developing hatered for their colleagues. I now work for a company called GSS America , www.gssamerica.com . it has a very low attrition rate as compared to industry standards. Why? I have yet to zero on the cause
