Need initiative
by SSCD on Apr 02, 2007 01:05 PM  | Hide replies

All of us, pretty much, spend 24 hours of the day, 365 days of the year, working for ourselves and our own family. We hardly care to expand this circle of responsiblity to encompass the society/nation/mother-nature. Shouldn't we be trying this? Rather than leaving it all to politicians to be fixed, why can't we take our own fair share? Why should our responsibilities, towards the nation/society, end with casting of votes every 5 years?

What we can do? good question, may be impart practical education to the labors/farmers, like how to manage expenses, water harvesting, financial planning etc etc.

convert to buddhism
by neeraj on Apr 01, 2007 09:24 PM  | Hide replies

sir,
according to me, all of us .... should convert to buddhism. Buddhism is a great faith and will eliminate all the casteist , opressive and black magic that comes as a part and parcel of hinuism. also, it is not preachy like xianity and violent like islam. we will also stop fighting each other, become more spiritual and humble. we will also feel closer to our brothers in south east asia..and although buddhism teaches austerity, it does not force

look bro,
afghanistan and central asia were buddhist and so pacifist that they surrendered to islam and christianity without putting up any great resistance.
unadulterated buddhism is a cultural suicide and a millitary mistake.

unless you want your immediate descendants having islamic swords in their throats and later descendants of yours becoming mujahiddins donot think buddhism will save anybody.

So much you loose for wishful thinking

Genghis Khan was a Buddhist. He did OK on the battlefield. All of North India was Hindu and they lost to: Greeks and Persians and Arabs and Turks and Mongols and Mughals and Afghans.

You must be VERY proud of your Hindu 'warriors'

As someone of your MANY limitations may know, Buddhism was introduced to Mongolia 800 years before Genghis was born. It merged with local beliefs to form Shaman Buddhism. Tibetan Buddhism showed up in Mongolia after Genghis conquered Tibet.

You saffron-chaddi wearing simians are like the Taliban. You think yours is the ONE TRUE FAITH. Buddha rejected your caste hocus-pocus to form his own religion.

Your mighty Hindu %u2018warriors%u2019 lost to EVERYONE for > 2000 years. Stick to jumping on derelict mosques and murdering unarmed Mahatmas. That is the only bravery you are capable of. hahahahahahahaha

Indian economy has been doing quite well lately.
That is why sales of Middle Class items like motor-bikes washing-machines Air-Conditioners been going through the roof for the last 10 years

Unless you, in your infinite wisdom, believe politicians are buying 500 motor-bikes each.

Not by design
by Suresh Ram on Apr 01, 2007 08:44 PM

I don't think it is by design as much as it is by greed and ineptitude of our auth ori ties.. Malthusian economics no longer hold not in urban environments where increasing population density has led to greater per capital GDP (Becker- economics) .. The problem is more centralized control over local infrastructure and policies - that has to be fixed.. People/ citizens are quite capable of solving problems locally vs centralized auth ori ty...

Keeping Rural Indians poor- Boon for votebank politics
by krishnakumar bommireddipalli on Apr 01, 2007 06:20 PM  | Hide replies

MRV is absolutely correct. All governments that ruled India sofar, either at states or centre, have succeeded in keeping majority of Indians poor and illiterate (in true sense). This they have done by not creating adequate basic infrastructure like health care facilities, primary education, irrigation, drinking water, power and roads in rural areas. If all these were provided, the awareness levels of the masses would have gone up which would have come in the way exploting them for exploitation by the politicians of all hues. In the so called developed state like Tamilnadu peolple were being fooled by he netas by offering sarees, televisions etc. to corrupt the electorate and purchase votes. When there is no adequate infrastructure in rural side, the excellent role played by banks particularly PSBs in 70s, 80s and 90s in extending rural credit did not lead to the desired development. There is salvation for Indians only when the dirty politicians stop playing dirty politics for creating vote banks at the cost of development. The way veepee singhs, Arjun Singhs, Karunanidhis, Lalu Prasads are conducting themselves, it is hard to visualise development that mrv was talking about taking place in this countty. We want more Abdul Kalams and Manmohan singhs in poltics to lead the country to prosperity.
