Toys for the Rich
by Anantha Krishnan on Mar 17, 2007 03:06 PM  | Hide replies

So true; India is a land of contradicting features.. At one end we are talking about the suicides of the farmers in Maharashtra, Andhra, Orissa, etc., at the other end, an article like the above comes out giving data of how many luxury cars, yatches & private airlines are there in India.
This definitly speaks of the effort these people have had to put in to get this kind of money; it also speaks of an opportunity for social work by such people.
The Finance Minister should look at such avenues for taxation and spare the middle class.

My dear friend,

Even the rich people pay taxes. blame it on government and not on rich people.

Those who critisise are idiots.
by Vikrant Dhoke on Mar 17, 2007 02:55 PM  | Hide replies

Those critisising this article are idiots, frustrated lot in the society, who never achieved anything. I bet the PC they use to access this article & critisise it is not purchased from their earning.

They should better get help from psychiatrists.

Nobody can own all these beauties in the world. Not even Bill Gates. So stop crying.

You cannot marry all the beautiful women in cinema. Neither you can possess everything.

Learn to appreciate things you cannot possess. Learn to love them without being owned. Learn to be happy for people who have them.

As far as poverty goes, it will be there always. It has been there since the days of Shri Ram and there have been Rich people also.

Poverty cannot become worse than it was. There were homeless & starving people before centuries and there are homeless & starving people now. Similarly there were rich.. very rich people, the kings from ages. Yes we can help the poor, but not by communist model, by taking away wealth from the affluent. The naked, poor are not becoming poorer; but the others are getting richer.

Those writing about poor, did they ever go and help a poor man ? Do they treat the rickshaw walla with same respect ? NO. Do they purchase Levi's Jeans ? Yes. Do they spend all pocket money on themselves ? Yes.

If ambani had greed for money, so lakhs of people got employment directly or indirectly.

These people CREATE wealth, by working. Useless people only look at their wealth & cry.

So open your eyes & see the world. There is so much to appreciate & may be dream about.

Do we learn from history? Show-offs will continue their mindless pursuit in all ages, whether during the Roman un-civilisation or now.

Any wonder people uprise ... witness what they did to the nepal rulers, witness nandigram, witness maoists, witness iraq ...

Yes. Certainly it did inspire us - wanting to own one. But, the reality is otherwise!!. How does it matter to the common man to know what the rich & Famous have. At the end of the day, you need to slog on the streets to make your ends meet. And especially in India, the rich gets richer and the poor get poorer by the day. It's not worth it at the end of the day to go thro such unmindful articles.

Not to read
by Manoj K on Mar 17, 2007 01:37 PM  | Hide replies

Rediff going indiatimes way. I used to check indiatimes long back but no more. Similarly, it will also happen with rediff. They write articles about those who don't bother to read. However, this is state of all news media. These guys are so thick skinned and greedy that they will not care about readers. I would prefer to see any foreign site for indian news. The best is still our old DD channels.

It is completely useless article.

I stopped reading Indiatimes because it is biased and have useless information with good headings.
But rediff caters a larger crowd and people may be interested in this type of information, so you should avoid snubbing it as useless.

is this a matter 2 b proud of. i feel (and almost each & every citizen of this country should)ashamed
when i see almost everyday poor children not above ten yrs getting inside the big municipal dustbin(kachre ka dabba)and search for the things which can b of some interest 2 them
. what a pity!!! this gap between these big boys and those small urchins can never lead India to so called prosperity. .. don't u all agree with me? if so please raise your voice . ours is a democratic country.

There were greater number of poor children before libralisation began. Their number is decreasing because these new entrepreneurs are employing people in their millions.

Whether to feel proud or not b this is another thing but entrepreneurship and business is only way to raise the living standard of the country.Even communist countries like China have also adopted this and have become rich

Unless you sit on oil wealth, you have to work hard to become rich and remove poverty.

If u guys have any other way, please elaborate.

this curzan seems to be completely off his mind. Firstly, by no stretch of imagination can a 12 yr old child like this article and secondly Mr. Curzan if you read her name it is ARTI MENON CARROLL which clearly states that she is a married female having 2 surnames one being her original surname and the second one being from her adopted surname after marriage.

Curzan seems to be a 12 yr. old girl to me...
