Ramayana Re-Made?
by san man on Jun 27, 2007 09:13 AM  | Hide replies

I've read the comics, and I'm not sure I liked the attempt to re-make the Ramayana into some futuristic SciFi story like Star Wars. Rama uses nanotechnology, he utters phrases like "Status Report?", Lakshman is a foul-mouthed brat, and Sita has magical powers to command plants and vegetation. Hackers try to break into Ayodhya's main computer, like in the movie The Matrix. Ravana is some kind of mutant experiment created by mad scientists. Hanuman looks like Chewbacca crossed with Legolas. Somehow I get the feeling that Deepak Chopra is some shallow huckster...

Only the character names are same..the story, concepts, everything else is fresh. probably he should not have called it ramayana!!
The comics are not bad though. good imagination

Nice concept ..
by Sanjay Rao on Jun 27, 2007 08:12 AM

I bought two of their comics. I think most of our epic stories can be portrayed just like Greek did and can be hugely popular. The pictures are very appealing to the current generation who would otherwise won't give a damn about these epics. However, it would have been even better if they had hidden more morals of these stories in the comic somehow.

Are you sure those stories can be true?? begetting children by yagya n all. somebody with power of elephants. a flying human ape. Bridge of floating stones across the sea. a guy with 10 heads. Can all that be true? As far as archaeological evidence is concerned, it could be that whoever wrote those stories, was used the characters and some settings from his civilization, apart from his imagination (which forms most part of the mythologies)

Are you sure jesus is true? I mean turning all the water red, and being re-born after death and all.... sounds funny doesn't it?

What about Mohammed or Buddha? I mean being the prophet of the God etc, etc..

A matter of faith is just that, don't try to over analyze it or degrade it. We believe in it just like christians believe in the re-birth of Jesus. If you can't think Ramayan and Mahabharat are true, then someone else can't think how Jesus is true!

Jesus..the man might have been true..but most stories about him are not. He was supposedly born to a virgin mother..thats total crap. What I am saying is, may be there were some guyz called rama, krishna, arjun, bheem etc.. may be they were really good people. But the stories we hear about them are exageration. they are imagination of some very creative minds.

I do not like the idea of accepting any crap story in the name of faith. If you do, thats ur personal choice, but do not misguide people by claiming that they are true.

Shekhar, Faith transcends all barriers, reasoning et-all. May you dont believe but there ar a billion people who believe. You could have put your dissent in a better way. There is no right or wrong answer here. There is no win or loss. Your calling things "crap" just shows a careless usage which pervades your discussions. You do seem to be a non hindu with a hindu name as alias. Anyways your name or an assumed name is not the question. The question is are all religions one big lie. If hinduism is lie and myth then all other religions are bigger lies and myths. May be they just fantasy tales from fantasy land concocted by people back when. Well may be. However to debate the existence or lack there of you should come forward in a more civil manner.

I have no jurisdiction at all to regulate what people think!! If somebody can state some myths to be true, then I too have the right to mention my view on it. If I think its crap, i say it.

And by the way, i m not using any fake name.
I was born as a hindu, but prefer being an agnostic instead. And your statement about religions being lie is correct. Religion and spirituality are two different things. Religion, throughout the history, has just been a tool of power politics. Spirituality, on the other hand, has been a tool for enlightenment. Religions have been corrupted though centuries. They are mostly lies!!

Shekhar, You have no more jurisdiction to regulate what people think and do than me or anyone else. So please stay away from asinine remarks like "dont misguide people" . By the flip side someone could tell you to zip it and not try and create a storm in a teacup.

Bhagavad Gita was originally written in Sanskrit. And , has not been corrupted over time. Read and understand it.
Hinduism is 5000 years old (approx 2500 BC), the oldest religion practised ever by mankind. Hindus have a lot of devis and devtas, this teaches us to be tolerant of other religions and beliefs.
Before the Mughals (followers of Islam) and British (followers of Christianity), India was a country of predominantly Hindus. Some of them were forced, cajoled or willingly adopted Islam and Christianity for survival.
Hindus do not have a history of forcing anyone to follow our faith. Neither does India have a history of attacking any other country.
If you cannot respect your religion , atleast do not abuse it Mr. Singh. I cannot abuse all mothers , because I was mistreated by my mother.

Deepak chopra is exceelent. He is capable of doing so much. I wonder how come he does not take interest in doing his work here. He has already achieved a lot more than any body. Now its time he should think of spending time in India more and sever his mother land with whatever talent he has.
