What the article fails to mention is that in India, the rate of direct or indirect tax is tremendously high, leaving the working class with practicaly very low amount in hand, as compared to US. In US you can have better utilization of your earning for your own cause, it doesn't go mostly to Goverment's pocket. With reasonably lower salary, the cost of living in a city like Mumbai, as high as US cities.
