For all those who don't understand the real meaning of
by kanav chadda on Feb 16, 2007 08:26 PM

I was scrolling through your article coz am an aspiring fashion retail student and i was pleasantly surprised reading it...the appreciation your article has shown the towards fashion industry is applaudable but from the messages posted below it seems that the readers really did not understand the meaning of the article. If these same men were to buy a mercedes-benz (which i doubt they can afford-but hypothetically speaking), they wouldn't mind spending say abt 25 lakhs to over a crore on it...but when it comes to clothing spending 40k on a hugo boss suit seems like a waste of money (Ironic isn't it!)One gentlemen in his message said that why should indians follow western fashion and wear their designs, while only the middle class westerners would buy an indian brand...well i think my above example should really him sort out his "oh-so-confused" state of mind...and newsflash Liz Hurley's weddinng outfits are being designed by an indian designer..i would just end by saying that fashion in not a mere item of utility...its an iconography of a person..it symbolises his or her style, which ofcourse your previous readers definitely lack

ps: A piece of advice for the people who have posted their comments below...i wouldn't have witten this message if it wasn't for your messages which portray nothing but a great sense of despise towards "fashion"...India is honestly progressing a lot..Indian designers have represented India in the Paris Fashion week and Milan Fashion Week (both being the fashion capitals of the world) which I think is a matter of great pride for us Indians..so the quote "Mera Bharat Mahan" still holds true!

ha ha ha Are we creative enough or just becoming a consumer state where all products willl come from USA and one day inflation will rise. Sanctions will come from USA and European COuntries. Are we digging our own graves. In Europe third class people buy indian ethnic wear like kurta or some junkies. Here in India just the opposite. where are our great Bal s who can t even create one style for office goers so that we can feel proud of. Remember west admires passively when we create anything of my own. When west admires u on ur face, remember we are going wrong. We live in different place different climate and of course different mentality. So please create some dresses which suits indian mentality which is catchy to eyes of west.
We create cotton but we wear Giorgio because westerns tell it great. I m happy with my Pantaloon and side corner tailor Master. Please organize these Tailor Masters before they die into peril. I remember selling indian clothes in Germany and France. No rich liked thses; I see Indian shoes with indian leather and indian labour but last not least with foreign design are sold in foreign soils with a tag of 300 euros. HEre labours are paid 200 euros or less per month which is not even the cost of one shoe they make. Shame on us . Please rise My Bharat, instead of importing machines from west to make our shoes lets creat all on own. They pollute our countries in the name of transfer of technology. Who is gaining in the end??
Rise rise and rise mera bharat
It s shame that to express my feelings i use english instead of hindi tamil kannada or any common language derived taking into account of all languages of india. Let s create a common language for india on the basis of all existing languages. this will bring people more closer. Let s create a software that is all in this unique language and which uses this code.
These things make impact on world. Koreans Chinese japanese are smart enough t o understand this.
