It appears ice berg do not Hyderabad and its traffic woes. Now in peak time it takes minimum one to two hours to reach Begumpet Airport. Instead of travelling in taxi, if we travel in auto the time will be still less than one hour because the auto can easily manouver in gallies whereas a taxi cannot. Now if we look at Shamshabad Airport which is 30KMs away from heart of the city, crossing Mehadipatnam, Tolly Chowk etc. which are even though have very wide roads but congested due to occupation of roads by hawkers and autos, you can imagine the plight of travelling public.

This is cool. I was reading in the newspaper that the Airport is being opened (or should I say inaugarated) ahead of schedule!!! Kudos to the constuction company, administrators and the officials.

However, the numbers in this article suggest it is just a 3rd bigger than the current airport which I think is far less than expected. probably phase 1 but still the right approach.

Now the govt should also buck-up and complete the access improvement infrastrcture on a war-footing (and ofcourse with impeccable quality).

Hopefully, by beating the deadline, the officials and the constructon have not compromised on quality!!!

As a matter of fact, the project has been so efficient , only because the control is in the hands of a private firm, operating free from the governament.. it would have been further world class if it was 100% privately owned, but what to do, our atrocious government depts have to come in the way and have some stake in it.

It is a shame that bodies like AAI claim that they can build airports.

The hand of the government is a powerful curse. Anything it touches WILL end up as total shit.

false claims
by dr.kiran on Dec 22, 2007 10:40 AM

all these are tall claims, i have personally seen the growth in and around the airport,it is next to zilch, only ppl makin money are the politicos and gmr infra, the land prices in and around the airport have been hiked up to 1 crore per acre but there is no development to speak ofthe roads leading to the airport are so narrow that hardly 1 vehicle ca pass thru it,it is worse thanthe airport of any small town.
