See WB, you are loosing because of your arrogance behaviour. Next he might visit Tamil Nadu, Orissia, Andra, Karnataka etc. What are you waiting WB state & Kerala, Go & grab some ties & setup some industries. Forget the ideologies. We need some industries & investments. Don't see nationalities.

ok it is upto you. I am not seeing any nationality if they setup industries. Whether it is an official visit by Abe or GWB or Hu or Saudi Prince or Putin to name a few.
But WB will be very strict only when Hu comes, they will get refresh, I like that but we should appreciate other developments also. Timid Rigid attitude won't lead us any where.

We should useN-deal smartly for our development...
by james on Aug 23, 2007 12:40 AM  | Hide replies

N deal with usa will not only bring enough energy to meet the future demand ,but also to make a firm economic ties with usa and its rich allies. Now all the european countries and developed countries in asia like japan, sputh korea and australia and making their move to invest a lot of money in indian market.THIS IS ALL ONLY BECOZ OF N-DEAL WITH USA.

Credibility of india is approved world wide now.The biggest prob for communist to oppse this deal is simple.
1.India will emerge as a super power in economy in competing with china. As this is a smart move by usa to check china and its power in asia.
2.USA is in a verge to power an ally which can check the economy and supermacy of china.Mostly European countries,Japan, australia are behing usa and india.
3.By all means it is advantage for india.BE CAN IMPROVE OUR STATUS FROM THIRD WORLD COUNTRY TO A DEVELOPED COUNTRY BY THE AID OF THESE RICH COUNTRIES AND USE THIS DEAL SMARTLY.

btw way James while I understand u r emotion about India , just a samall note. Third world country does not mean a 'poor' country - it is basically the Non-Aligned countries during those days of post WW2. So be cautious while using 3rd world to developed country analogy.

If Japan ignores India, let it be.
by wibas wibas on Aug 23, 2007 12:23 AM  | Hide replies

Trade and commerce are important between two countries. But the tone in the article is such that we want more from Japan? We need that billions of dollars so we can have more industries etc? Why do we everytime look for someone else to lift us?
When Kawasaki tied up with Bajaj, it seems they didn't even shared their design blueprints with them. Its same now with Hero Honda.
Look at otherside of the coin, TVS dared Suzuki to walk out of partnership and went on to become one of the best product company in India. Even in the 80s, Sumant Moolgaonkar led Telco (Tata Motors) drove off Japanese LCVs from India including the might like Toyota and Nissan. We see more Tata 407s than the DCM Toyotas today. In Software, Japan want to emulate the India Indians.

When Canon Executive says infrastructure in India should be improved then thats true. Its govt first priority to improve infrastructure make them world class, than trumping about 8% or 9% growth. Japanese PMs made several visits to India with their business delegates, even then the trade figures haven't improved. Until Japan finds something to invest in India these meetings bring add little value.

Good one. Japanese capitalism has made India slaves. We like Japan but truth is Japan dont like us.

Kawasaki, Suzuki are sucking our blood or money from ages. Nothings goes from India to Japan everything comes from Japan.

Such a huge imbalance

Similarly, Japan's share of India's imports has actually gone down from 6.6% in 1993-94 to 2.7% in 2005-06. On the other hand, India's imports from Japan witnessed a robust growth of 45.3% in 2003-04, 21.3% in 2004-05 and 25.5% in 2005-06.

We had significant trade surplus with only country, that is US for my knowledge, some other countries, we don't have negative balance & often only raw materials. I don't want to name blankly like you.

Yes. Abdul, Rightly said. We cannot stock watches from last few decades. We buy things considering it is cheap, but we pay the price later.

Commie Traitors

Only 2 nations in the whole world are opposing this Indo US nuclear deal, China and Pakistan.... China has the Most Favored NAtion status with the US and opposes the same status for India. China has got a similar nuclear deal with the US bt opposes the deal with India... Jyoiti Basu of CPM protested against Indian defence againt chinese invasion of india in 1962 and was jailed by Nehru for anti India activities. Basu went on to become the CM of bengal. Commies never condemn Chinese claim of arunachal Pradesh whn the people themselves want top be part of India.. CPM opposes Indian nuclear progress bt has no problems with Chinas nuclear arming of pakistan whch are targeted towards India and supports iranian nuclear program. The communists oppose ndustrialiazation in India and went on killing 100's of poor farmers in Singur and Nandigram tryin to grab farmers fertile land for setting up industries. Commies are ruling bengal for more than 30 years now and have reduced bengal from being the finest to being the poorest.. Only big industry in commie ruled states bangal and kerala are trade unions and their number one product is strikes and bandh. Commies vociferously opposed introduction of computers by rajiv gandhi, commies cald computers as evil and against national interest. Commies neva condemned chinese invasion of India in 1962. Commies do not recognize aksai chin in kashmir as part of india. And yes the commies got a new name now "Headless Chickens and Spineless Morons".

Japan, India break trade impasse over lunch
by Bodh Ramdeo on Aug 22, 2007 10:01 PM  | Hide replies

There are good reasons why Japan has been able to propser post WWII and India did not.
Fist and foremost is that Gen McArthur saw to it that Japan areceived the Asian equivalent of the Marshall Plan which was provided to Europe to rebuild their shattered economies. Poor India had no such luck.
Secondly, Japan has always been a homogenious society - everyone bascially of the same race, religion and language - no internicine infighting amongst themslves as happens in Indian politics. Also until the late '80, for all intents and purposes, like Taiwan and SKorea, Japan had a benign-dictatorail one-party 'democracy' - that's why govt could make tough decisions and carry them, not like happens in democratic India, where doing nothing is de requeur for good governance.
Fourthly, Japan had access to US technology, capital and materials, and untrammeled access to US markets, without the need to reciprocate.
Fifth, Japanese are a disciplined people, because historically, for centuries they've always lived under a totalitarian govt system - they did as they were told or were severely punished - death was a favored punishment -hence thier high level 'discipline'.
Sixth, Japan didn't have to spend all her resources and energies protecting herself against enemies surrounding her from all sides -Uncle Sam took care of that, leaving them free to use that money on developing their economy.
Also, Japan opted for a capitalist system, albeit with a heavy-dose of govt 'help', especially

in a way i wish india were as properous as japan..but a part of me is still worried about re-colonization of the country..so we may be slow, but we are sure-footed..and our changes are our own..

only time will tell we are good enough or not

There are service centers which exists like SONY AUTHORIZED CENTER etc. which gave millions of jobs to technicians. Now a days, these were gone, and those decent guys who got decent income are doing fruit stalls. Rediff can interview one electronics guys interview in the rediff column, he will tell you the story.

Simpleast reason Japanese made it and we did not was the quality of people, lets face it, one can always point out to crap like multi race etc,
thats quite a lot of nonsense, other than some communities (eg parsi) in india no other people post w war II were enlightened enough or hard working enough. We as a people were lazy and corrupt. Japanese too had their share of corruption, but they were hard working and focussed.
