Congratulations to Kerala
by A Moin on Jul 30, 2007 03:51 PM

This was THE BEST news I've read all day. I wish the rest of the country follows suit & encourages more of us to use Linux.

Linux is often an example that a COLLECTIVE EFFORT undertaken by people- both pros & amateurs alike- can overdo a corporate one. By a HUGE margin too.

Again, congrats to Kerala...

All you morons who encourage free software - Today Richard is old and he will die out after promoting free software ... do you think if you are a developer or your son tomorrow is a developer will work for free to develop a free software ... You buy a free software who is going to support you with any bugs or problems ... tomm u mean TCS , INFOSYS , WIPRO who develops software for huge MNCs should all work for free ... rendering millions of software developers hungry ... why would they write software ..why wud they need to ease our life using technology for free ... would you spend years of our life writing software for free .. if yes , in that all in support of free software have no right to use it ..rather than go back to their native places and cut trees.. also Great people like Narayan Murthy, Bill him self are not just keeping the money to themselves..They are using it for the development of the poor, under privileged children , and many other things which u r not aware of..Guys Richard has earned enough for himself to live a lavish life..and wants us Indians to suffer ... remember there are millions of Indians developers in the US itself .. thats why our economy is Going good

Strange for most people in INDIA who buy assembled computers, almost all got pirated windows installed , There was no M$ support anyway, Your local technician came with a cd and reinstalled windows, and the same happens now, Only he comes with a linux cd and installs legal software , so support is the same, and We in kerala belive you need to make an environment for people to live honestly and the Govt should not waste peoples money on some company anyway, Investment in Free Software ensures that the money spend remains useful to public and the state does not end up as a training centre for MS-Office

Most people like you dont understand free software. It means specifically open source and not that it is available for Rs 0. There are versions given free(ubuntu linux etc) and far better versions given for a reasonable price(redhat etc). So if ur company needs an efficient system pay 4 it. So the concept of IT companies disappearing isnt true. I mentioned this bcoz some one below this message has mentioning INFY etc will be finished.

Anyway i dont think linux should be the main platform for kids as people new to computers will need to put a tremendous amount of effort to learn with linux. When u teach this to a class of 40-50 students using one computer in a govt school, it wont work.

To be or not to be apalled is my reaction to this article.

It's amazing to see IT wars played at this level while it never ceases to disgust that the power IT cld be de-leveraged with such utter contempt by narcissist idiots called politicians.

I think peoples are not thinking
by Riva T Philip on Sep 04, 2006 05:05 PM
I can't understand why you guys are supporting this stupidity of Achu and a bunch of Leftists.

This comrade Achu is uneducated an dlacks even primary education. he don't know anything about Computers, IT, technology, etc. He can't speak even English or Hindi, forget French, Deutch, and Spanish. He was a man who opposed Smart City, a hightech IT Park.

I am a Right-wing Congressman and oppose anything supported by Leftists. I don't like Leftist policies. They are barbarians.

Mulayam Singh and Devegowda (other two morons) are far better than Achu.

The story ignores the actual conflict
by Avinash on Sep 04, 2006 11:56 AM

The way the story is written, one would get the impression that the choices being made here between Microsoft windows platform and free software was merely a political conflict between the two parties in Kerala which are vying for power among themselves.

The real choice, and the real conflict, the consequences and meaning of making either choice, is hardly commented on. How free software is 'free' is not at all made clear. And how Microsoft platform is not 'free', not only in terms of cost, but in terms of being bound to it, is not commented upon at all.

Those who are not already familiar with this issue, will just thing it is some fight between two political parties over what business houses should be contracted. At least a comment indicating that this debate and this conflict has been raging worldwide, is the minimum demand of journalistic ethics here.
