Audits of Net Present Values, Pay Back Periods, Internal Rate of Returns, and incremental values earned in addition to and above organic growth alternatives which have been rejected for acquisition funding, are essential ingredients of business decision evaluation. I am not aware if such information is available for the most publicised acquisitions of the past. I have been personally involved in a Mckinsey recommendation in this respect, which has turned in to abject failure. European felicitation for saving jobs may titillate egos, but it is not the same as achieving business objectives.
