Why promote only IITs?
by Ram on Oct 25, 2006 10:08 AM

As someone pointed out already, Rediff seems to cover only IITs and infosys. I never saw an article outside of these two. I do agree, IITs have developed tremendous reputation. At the same time, its important to promote other tier2 institutions and other companies that have done well if not on par with infosys.

Do us a favor Rediff ? Make an honest survey of students studying abroad ( say USA) receiving Doctoral degree as a curve of IIT vs. non-IIT. You might have some shocking result !!!!

IIT again.........WHY!!!!!!
by whatever on Oct 24, 2006 02:55 PM

Oh God!! I just dont get it.. why oh why do IITs get so much attention. I study in an Ivy League School abroad and there are 100s of graduate students from india who are not from IITs. They are doing great for themseves as well. What is a lab gonna do for the IITs.. just look at how much research has been done in IITs since there inception and compare to any other big school abroad. People just dont have the right kind of acumen there to do something big. I wish rediff would give us a break and probably talk about some other good schoold in India rather than the IITs.

New India vs old India
by Dhiren on May 08, 2006 02:58 AM  | Hide replies

Its time to come out of the dreamland and face the hard facts confronting the country.India is a country of "classes" -The rich-the poor, the english speaking and non english speaking, the city bred and rural simpletons. The list goes on and on.The real character of any country is identified by the standard of life an ordinary citizen enjoys and not by the superficial lifestyle of a few privileged and influential people who think they are world class and above the ordinary folk.It is true,we have the IITs and the IIMs but then why is our infrastructure in shambles. How come no one trusts any one else, and how come we are dependent on foreign technology still. Can anyone give examples of any worthwhile projects developed by our esteemed institutes that have been implemented in real life to improve quality of life of our citizens. Why is it that all IIT and IIM graduates head for the US and other western destinations. The fact is nothing has changed in the old and new India's.Everything today is over glamourised and over-rated.Humility and pride in one's origins are extinct like the dinasours.Indians today are like water. They lose their character and originality as soon as they land oversea

Ya..you are right. Its nothing but extra feel good factor. We are far behind EU or US but when it comes to comparison we do it with handful techograds. Truth is we are one of few developing countries where people die of hunger. I dont know what to do about such uthors. Hopelessly optimistic.

I agree a 101% with Mathur about India making its own brands and focus on this. Outsourcing was essential to get the initial captial required. But now its time we use that capital for Indian ventures and spread the word around the globe. Another point to be noted is that the ventures start out in India focussing on the Indian market first and then spanning outward. This would allow firms to be self-reliant with a strong base in home country. American firms have applied this theory in most of its venture firms which over time surpassed everyone's expectations. This would also allow SEBI over time to make Indian markets more open with open trading from anywhere around the world - the Hong Kong concept of open market - which is not limited to FIIs.
God bless Mumbai

Dude,

Why are you getting frustrated that you could not make it into IITs/IIMs. It is like saying Why Aishwarya appears on all newspapers and not my wife! Cool it, we need to project the best.

Whenever there is anything good done in other institutes, I am sure it will also be heard.

At the end of the day, a good brand does matter!

Thanks,
Raghu.

Is there any other India beside IIT?
by Rajeev K Arora on May 06, 2006 04:01 AM

Media (especially Rediff) sees nothing beyond IITs and IIMs. Looks like every student of any other engineering institute in India needs to have some sought of association with IIT or IIM to get support, motivation, and encouragement in order to succeed. Why this partiality and discrimination? Why not convert or structure all engineering institutes like IITs.

This is good!
by Consult2win on May 06, 2006 12:44 AM

I am unable to figure out!!!..

Is this a article to promote IIT and the services provided by them or another stunt to promote an application Webaroo...

Anyways, it is again one of the good methods to promote a product on the shoulders of other famous entities / institutions of the world.

Should not reveal your plans if they are going global
by VENKAT on May 06, 2006 12:04 AM

We should not let any outsiders into our labs and steal our ideas? By the time the company goes global some one else probably will implement the idea or
acquire the company and make all the money he could
in the global businees space.

When will we ever learn to keep secrets?
