Modernisation of Railway Stations
by Shibu K.George on Jun 29, 2006 10:32 PM

Its a very good idea...am a mumbaite and wish all the stations in mumbai and rest of india to be remodelled similar like Navi mumbai stations...besides increase the speed of long distance trains wherein passengers will again prefer train services than air with best facilities.

Airport-like Rly stations soon - hah!
by labrea on Jun 28, 2006 07:44 PM

Apparently, confronted with a huge loss of their 'top-paying' passengers to low-cost airlines, the burra-sahibs in Rail Bhavan have suddenly woken up to 'customer services', like clean, airy, well-designed people-friendly stations, with clean toilets, food courts, shopping and even entertainment. Isn't competition great!!!! But, you'll believe it when you see it. Who knows, maybe in 50 years or so people will be able to actually use the toilets at the stations rather than going on the line. It's also time that govt monopolies run by useless, self-serving, rude and imperious babus went the way of the DoDo bird! Ahem!

LOL...
Rail Bhawan officials said....We want passengers to have an enjoyable time while they keep waitiiiin for trains.
To the concerned authority: Keep the stations & the trains clean of Hawkers, beggars & dogs. 50% of your work done.

Hope they dont charge like Airports
by Gopinath on Jun 28, 2006 03:12 PM

It is a good intiative by Railways to modify Stations on lines with the Airports. But it would be a serious setback if they start charging the same way as AAI does for the parking and entry fee.

airport at railway station
by syam on Jun 28, 2006 02:29 PM

Even after introduction of 'budget' airlines, the airports (modernised or not modernised) is still 'business class'. The levis and charges at airports are 'extra ordinary' and too premium.
The interesting thin hidden with railway officials is the cost what passangers to be paid for this 'airport' at railway stations. If that also to be airport like, then that will the last nail in the coffin of passangers.
Eventually passangers will be the targets in this railways vs airways.

Railway Terminals like Airports???
by Subhan on Jun 28, 2006 01:06 PM

Seeing the state-of-art Airports that we have in India, one only needs to imagine how these Railway Terminals will eventually turn out.

Article says: "The detailed plan to convert these four stations into mega-terminals is expected to be put up before the Railway Board soon."
- If it is now pending with Railway Board, then we won't be seeing anything in our life-time.
