no excise duty reduction in pharmaceuticals
by hitesh on Feb 28, 2006 11:31 PM

the whole domestic pharma industry, specifically ssi was looking foward to this budget, as the excise duty on medicines was expected to be reduced from 16 to 8%. on one hand, the govt. is talking of reducing the cost of medicines , making it affordable to COMMON man and on the otherhand, not reducing the duty on medicines instead reducing it on aerated drinks. what kind of balancing act is this

Nothing unexpected, it is PC's usual budget
by Harish Upadhyay on Feb 28, 2006 11:18 PM

There is nothing new in the budget, it is again a under pressure of MNCs. Increasing indirect taxes will definately affect poor population. Making cold drinks cheaper will make rural India thursty where we dont have sufficient drinking water facility.

Budget 2006
by mahesh aneja on Feb 28, 2006 09:42 PM

Dear F.M
Sir the Industry was looking for abolishing CST as
promised at the time of Implementation of VAT. The
promise remains unfulfilled and the Industries/businessmen feel betrayed. They deserve
relief as CST is creating big problems.

To all Finance Wiz
by Ashwin on Feb 28, 2006 07:25 PM

To all the finance wiz who has posted their comments here you people should understand & know that THE WORST A MAN CAN DO IS TRYING TO SATISFY EVERYBODY.

He is the FM of one of the World`s biggest democracy & he obviously has to do a balancing act to cater to the needs of the wide spectrum. He cannot come & fulfill each man`s necessity.

Don`t comment for the sake of commenting as if you are an authority in the subject.

Power Projects
by Anirudhya on Feb 28, 2006 06:29 PM

I think the introduction of major power projects is step that shows that the government is looking towards the future. However, I have a couple of questions -
a> What % of this is going to be thermal power (since we would run out of coal in about next 30 years)
b> If the most of these are thermal projects, what is the plan of action going forward?
c> When is the government thinking about strict laws against power thefts that account to over 30% of generation today(ofcourse there are laws, how they are enforced is determinant from the stats)
