Infy...IIT ....et all
by sajeev nair on Apr 23, 2007 12:48 PM

I have never worked for Infy ....
Its true that Infy possibly gets more press than the other two in the Indian Big three. But in the end if we do not promote our companies who else will. In the end "Marketing" is a part of the game. One cannot be like WIpro or TCS with zero press. Infy has had more saleable CEO/COOs than the other two. May be much better than even the other MNCs operating out of India. They have been better communicators with the media than others. SO no point in grudging that. I think Kris's goal of consultancy driven organization is the way to go for an Infy or a TCS. The fact is all the large Servies MNC in the world are trying to be there. Thats the way they can up the ante against an IBM or an Accenture, companies which have begun copying the Indian Delivery Model of the Big three. So if you don't turn the heat on their core strategy its going to be a downhill in a few years from now . The problem in Servcies is that you cna COpy the model of your competetor in a shorter period of time than in Products. SO Kris goal seems pretty viable in the long term for Infy. Nice to see that we have Indian CEOs in Indian companies who are as communicative as the Infy CXOs.

What is IITs Contribution in India in Technology?
by skumar on Apr 14, 2007 01:00 AM

What is IITs contribution in India in terms of technology? What significant contribution has come from IITians in Manufacturing in INDIA? India is yet build a car engine with 100% Swadeshi technology.

Delhi Metro rail has come into being with technology from Korea. Modernization of our steel plants were carried out by outsiders.IIT is supposed to produce good engineers for the service of the Nation. If someone joins IIM after graduating from an IIT and then joins a Financial company , then it is utter missuse of National Resources.

Infy comes first; we will accept it
by Morningraaga on Dec 06, 2006 05:09 AM  | Hide replies

The questions asked in the interview are pretty misleading. All questions are related with IIT.

There is no doubt about the potential in IIT candidates
making India successful in all fields. The question would have been more appropriate without tern "IIT" in each question. Think about it.

The article name should have been INFY COMES FIRST, WE ACCEPT ALL IITians.

IITians
by Derec on Dec 06, 2006 02:41 AM  | Hide replies

IITians yet have to prove their superiority in science. All the nobel laureates from India were not from IIT (CV Raman, Chandrashekhar, Khorana, Amartya Sen etc. followed by many scientists who could receive nobel prizes: S.N. Boce, J.C. Bose-none of them were from IITs). Also in basic science field University Graduates have much better contribution to science that IITians. In otherwards, in proving their highest academic achievements through nobel prize, IITians yet have to go few steps. Mere success in corporate world does not prove allround greatness

Good interview and noble ideas
by Jagadeeswara Reddy on Dec 05, 2006 11:03 PM

Being an ex-Infoscion, I am pleased to read this interview. Kris ideas are more practial in nature and I think he knows how to go about it.

IT is time for the recent IITians to demonstrate in IT products business which can have higher revenue and profit and employment potential.

more IIT and infy hype?
by Arun on Dec 05, 2006 11:01 PM  | Hide replies

What's it with rediff and all the IIT/Infy hype? Last time IITians were God's gift to the world, now infy values and stuff. Tata has a great ethic too, but you guys act like infy is the only honest corporate body in india (Not this interview, in general. BTW, I have nothing to do with wither tata or infy). Sure, infy is good, but here's my view: Of the three, Wipro does the more technically challenging work. TCS and Infy mainly do "end to end solutions" - right from production support to maintenence and a little bit of ground up dev. Wipro does OS and embedded system stuff on a much larger scale than Infy or TCS. And, TCS is bigger than Infy, with more hi-profile clients, so Infy is neither the biggest IT player nor is the one doing the best work, so what's the big deal?

Finally, Kris claims IITians are the reason India is good at IT. Reality check: IITians hate Infy, TCS et al because they dont pay that well and do low end work. There are very few IITians in these firms and those are, are MTechs from non CS/CE/EE backgrounds, or Btechs with low CGPA. I would say 90% of india's s/w staff come from non IITs, so I think kris is overstating things a lot.

This is wonderful to have such a team .In todays time
when difernces do come from no where .I think that this is their value system that is keeping them together/Non of them seem to be greedy for money which is the mahor reason for differences.
Regards/rks
