by deb on Dec 21, 2006 11:00 AM

while she is introduced as Kalzoom CEO ...

did anybody care to check if the company exists ? the shutters are down since last 6 months .

Kalzoom was hallmark of mis-management and failure .
do not glorify or eulogise Uma Ganesh.

Rediff s'd have chosen at least a 'successful' enterpreneur :-)

Global India
by Batuku on Dec 10, 2006 08:10 PM

I feel so passionate about my contry even I left my country in 2001 .The reason is where ever you are whoyou are we still cry the flagship of your nation either planet or space. But what all matters is your valuable contribution for the humanity and how u present yourself and set your goals for the future,be you can just reach by any means .It hurts alot hwe we leave our home land and you dont have to be just IITian/any professional that directly or indirectly does contribute for the well being of our motherland. All you need is to have perspective in life and qualitative startergy for its quantitative excecution and ofcourse the almighty grace on you that protects from all evils around you.Bottom line a human being with good virtues and the genorsity that we carry with in us will always make a good citizen wherever you are.I hope........ being indebted to our proud nation is all that we need.Good luck to all the future champs of Global India.

IIT is not great
by Dharab on Dec 10, 2006 08:01 PM

Donot think, IIT is great. Think globally, why the hell these IIT\'s line up to join MIT/Stanford... why dont they stay back and continue there higher studies. IIT\'s are pressurized by there parents. There brains are tired by the time they come-out of IIT, after that they dont work hard. They live in there past success expereinces. Other institute people especially who are not succeded JEE, work hard
and show that they are more talented than IIT\'s.

Not sure about that...
by Arun on Dec 05, 2006 12:42 AM  | Hide replies

I am not really sure that the IITs as institutions have contributed to the development of India. Almost all IITians leave India for US/UK etc. Most of the people who run the Indian union are people that didn't go to IIT or couldn't afford to go there.

Let's take MIT, Univ of Chicago, Stanford, Harvard etc. People who went to these Universities went on to become great industry titans or politicians in their own countries. However, how many from the IIT's claim the same.

Of course, people like Rajat Gupta would have succeeded even without an IIT education because he's super smart. Mind you, Rajat Gupta was at Harvard when he landed the McKinsey job.

People who went to IIT have done remarkable things in their career, but those people would have succeeded even if they were schooled at XIT or YIT or ZIT. They are the Einstiens, Enrico Fermis of the World.

When you take out that crop of people, can we really say that IITs as institutions have helped develop India? As yourself this question.

This comment is targeted at IIT's as institutions, not at the individuals who went to those institutions.

Thanks.
Arun

Dear Arun and others,

lets get one point clear..which forms the basis of ALL arguments against IITians that i have come across. believe me..ALL arguments.

and that is.."most IITians leave india for the US/abroad. Well, thts a misconception. you and scores of others brewing hatred for IItians will be surprised to know that hardly 30% of iitians go abroad.

As a comparison, 15-20% of non-iitias, from other colleges, also land up abroad.

I rest my case here. hopefully, the IITs will soon officially release some data on the ppl gng abroad.

branding IIT
by rajan on Dec 04, 2006 06:25 PM

very good article. IIT's have created a brand for India. But at the same time i find IIT's get too much attention in the media. Instead you should also make a survey of Non IITians who have succeded in their venture's with lot of handicap unilike IITians. For instants find out critical components suppliers to ISRO,BARC,and find out how many IITians are there. Also why not find out how many BITS'ans have brought laurels to India. Having said this ther is no doubt we need more institutions to imaprt educations like IIT.For a country like India producing 5000 odd engineers of high calibre with a hige public expenditure calls for a audit.
