In reference to the article published on Garbage handling and disposal, your effort in bringing the issue forward has to be appreciated.
But regarding the story of India the effort of Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India in developing an indigenous technology to solve the problem has been grossly ignored. DST had funded a company called SELCO International Ltd, Hyderabad to setup the country's first commercially viable garbage processing unit, followed by a Waste to energy plant. These units are today the only running garbage processing units in the country consuming 400 tons of garbage per day and producing 6 MW of power per hour. The plants have consumed about 500,000 metric tons of garbage and produced 90 million units of power out of it so far. But for such units to become commercially viable and operatable throughout the country, the bureucrats have to take the initiative in creating an encouraging atmosphere for the companies to take up such projects.
