First thing i noticed was that this 15 para article had complete inaccuracies (sometimes these are termed lies) in almost every major statistics. You can use real statistics to also paint a dismal picture. The author just invented them. The errors and falsehoods in the article are ridiculous and coupled with the tenor of the piece, this article is an example of worst time of journalism. regards Pranshu B Saxena
Contrary to author, more problems will bring more growth. there is no looking back atleast for india. environmental probs will bring better pollution equipments. health probs. will bring in more medical equipments and facilities. war will bring cutting edge technology.
While I agree with the author of the article. I think that the biggest challenge facing developing economies like India is the high oil price. It is already $70 a barrel and the price will rise further. It has already caused the dollar to appreciate against the rupee and has increased the current account deficit substantially. Hence I think that the author should take this factor also into account in his article. Regards, Dax
A sensible article. All those freat patriots out there must read this. All those economists who shout from the rooftop that population growth is good for the country because the young demography could propel India. Take the case of IT - if the US of A just shuts the door what will happen to all these cybercoolies? Can India survive? Its not a doomsday prediction. Its laready happening in Europe. Even after 10 years of offshoring OR outsourcing Europe hasnt open their doors and as far as I know no European company has gone bust due to that. If you are left in an island without any food or any other living being except humans you will eat humans too. Its survival. The only way the country will survive will be to adopt chinese policy to limit the population OR go to a nuclear war so that we can start off all over again.
The article is superfluous without adressinbg the main problem. All these fancy economic figureworks and the forecasts are ,in fact, so far away from reality. The ground reality is that considerable resources collected by way of the taxes and ( supposedly) ploughed back in to economy and infrastructure - is just not happening. For every rupee planned to be spent on education healthcare and improvement of the infrastructure hardly 10 paise reaches the intended purpose. The rest is swindled away while in the pipeline. So what kind of progress are we talking about. Removal of corruption and control of the population should the main thrust areas and no Govts , past or present are bothered about it.This is the rank truth.
