The observation about India is unacceptable and bad. India is emerging as an attractive market place in view of the technical capabilities of human resources.
There are many Arjun Divechas in the world. When the whole world thinks India and China are the most attractive business places in the world, it is crazy to pick what Mr. Divechas says. Indians never believe themselves and therefore it is not surprising to see what Mr. Divechas says. With the emerging China, US and European Union have no choice but do business with India. What does Mr. Divechas say on the avlanche of software, BPOs and Biotech companies coming into India? Why should they come in if it is not attaractive? Paradoxical! I would not be surprised if many Divechas keep emerging, however the mighty Indian Tiger has woken up, small thorn pricks like this would not deter her.
I respect Mr. Divecha's thoughts, research and decisions. But it all comes across as from a person, who has left the country a long while ago, when it was on the verge of a paradigm shift and hence cannot gauge the shift sitting from America. I do not doubt that his research or decision is anything wrong, but then a company has to have "hands on" knowledge about the sectors and the country as a whole to gauge the investment decision. Another aspect to his decision could be the risk of being branded parochial by his colleagues about investing in a home country.
