Ean is old stuff. Indian retailers should learn from the IT professionals and not build up legacy systems. Think of RFID!!! Not Barcodes

Good Luck!!

One more damage when it is out of stock
by Biren Shah on May 06, 2005 12:24 PM

I would like to include one more comment when the item goes out of stock in supermarket. If I dont get the item I want (or used to), I may try another product (from another company) at that time. It is most likely (and happened in past) that I like the new item and from now onwards, I will be using that item on my every purchase.
See when it is out of stock - the supermarket has not lost anything, but the company may lose one customer PERMANENTLY. A big loss for FMCG company...

Barcodes should not be mandetory
by Manish Runwal on May 05, 2005 10:10 AM

its frustrating if its become mandetory. basic think is that goverment body is not able to provide proper electricity supply. According to their work they are saying that proper electicity will be done at 2010. so As every barcode scanning required one instrument which works on electicy. This means more power consumtion for unnecessary purpose. Why govement wants to impose such rules on Retails and thinking only benefits for Industries. Try to concentrate on proper Power supply then it will be thinking to that. Right now there are lots of retailer which is struggle to survive with their businsess. and goverment applied VAT on them. It looks that Goverment is Sleeping partner for every Firm ( shopping Firm) only ready to take profits from it. and not thinking to their loses. who will pay these loses. There is hell of taxes in india and even Indian are not able to survive with such taxes. and govement planning for abroad Investor. It looks really bad to impose such methods for retailer. Its a democratic India let pplz do what they want. We ( retailer ) are not interested for such barcode. Concetrate on Eletricity rather concetrating on International standards.
