I don't think any of these Indian IT companies are best for the ordinary IT professional.

Which Indian IT Co is the best?
by Pratyush Paul on Jul 06, 2005 12:21 AM  | Hide replies

Other then infosys none of them are any good. They nicely exploit their employees here in US and in India, Now the question is why they work for TCS, Wipro and HCL the only reason is they are not smart enough to come here and survive on their own, hence the only option they have is to work for a sweat shop. Their employees do not have any benefits, they are at the mercy of their program/project managers. Now when they leave these companies their CEO's start blaming the multinationals of paying them more etc( I did read one of the article by Azim Premji) point is why are they not paying all the benefits we have in US ( Medical, Life insurance, 401K, vendor training, fat bonuses). Again please note none of the above are part of my pay package( in fact they are part of the pay package in india). Why a database admin will be getting 6-7 lacs and his stupid project manager will be getting 25-30 lacs just for doing nothing. Why do they have benching in TCS, wipro & HCL, why do they send you home after 2 weeks on bench. Why are they not paying for maternity expenses to their employees( and their families). Come to US, you will find something better.

Best Wishes :)

Pratyush

Dear Mr. bali - I beleive you work for these sweat shops in India, hence you know nothing of US. Which manager are you talking they make 30 times ..( meaning managers in US makes 3 million USD) you are holy cow man ..I laugh on the floor. You need to see a doctor real soon, you need a good phyciatric evals done ASAP. Please read the law suit of TCS with Gopi vedhachelam, you will have some more information.

Yeah right, you will find something better in the US. If you are not *extermely* bright, you will not even find a job in the US. The situation will get even worse in a few years. Plus if you take into consideration that you will have to pay at least Rs. 200 laks to buy a house in NYC or San Franciso, where all the jobs are, then you will be pretty much living as a miser. If you have any kind of technical job in the US you will be treated like a coolie, your boss (most likely white) will get the big bonuses, the nice car, nice house, while you do most of the dirty work.

The worst thing in the US is that they pay managers 10-30 times an engineer's salary just to play golf and hang out with their buddies. Managers are the most highly paid, incompetent, lazy people in the US.

A good article

The article gives a clear introspection of the lines of business of the IT biggies Infosys,Wipro and TCS. A good structured and more informative article.

It's not true
by kalidas on Jul 05, 2005 06:23 PM

TCS has lowest attrition rates. True. But it is not because of good HR policies.

Information from many inside sources tells me that the attrition rates are low because of low competency. An average TCSer has lesser/outdated skillsets than an average Infocian or and average Wiproite. Sometimes your attrition rate directly speaks of what percentage of your employees are able to get other jobs. There are people are all these companies that know NOTHING. I mean it. But there are more know-nothings in TCS than elsewhere.

Infosys has the best HR and decent competencies (therefore average attrition). Wipro has the worst work culture and good competencies (therefore high attrition) and TCS has the worst HR and so low competencies that despite the fact that employees are treated real badly, they just can't leave. Which means that with "only" 8% attrition, TCS is losing more than the other companies, because the leavers in TCS are outstanding.

Satyam @ No. 4
by ranjit on Jul 05, 2005 05:35 PM  | Hide replies

Satyam Computer services is also a company with strong foundations and a client list which can boast of quite a good number of fortune 50 companies including the likes of Merrill Lynch ,Citigroup etc..

Several Factors need to be considered before deciding which is the best or else the word 'best' is inappropriate.

Values over Value
by Sachin Shinde on Jul 05, 2005 04:49 PM

Thank you very much for the fantastic analysis of the three top IT companies in India. I feel that Values always count more than the value of the companies in term of the revenue. Even if today TCS shows better revenues over the period of two years, Infosys seems to have bettered the process and peoples faith over them in this period. On the other hand TCS with their soaring revenues havent yet taped much on BPO business which might be a key factor for them to keep up with their radical revenue inflation. As you have mentioned I have always seen Wipro as a struggling giant who is trying to juggle with internal employment and rate factor to their client. Thank you

Sachin
