IIM & IIT
by Sumit on Jan 28, 2004 02:49 PM

I have a very firm belife that if we subsidise IIMs & IITs that should benefit the country.

However its a fact that if not all most of the IIT & IIM pass outs get great package from abroad and opt for the same.

As their studies have been subsidised and as its for grooming the cream for our own country we should have a compulsion for all of them to work for 10 years for India or pay 50 lakh of rupees and get relieved. After all my tax money if not to groom brains for USA

x-IITian
of Joshiji and Professors
by x-IITian on Jan 28, 2004 02:40 PM

Well, someone try to find out what has really gone wrong with Joshiji. Why the sudden hostility towards Indian Centres of Educational Excellence??

Anyway, talking of the cutting down of fees and SIMULTANEOUS reduction of grants, why doen't anyone talk about increasing the scholarships to post grads and PhDs. Why does't anyone talk of the incresing the payscale of faculty in these institues. I clearly remember Dr. BL Jain from IITD making his concluding remarks at the all-IIT meet in Banaglore last year "When I ask a PhD to beecome a faculty at IIT, I also have to tell him that the salary you'll be offered is less than what my son will be getting after his undergrad from an IIT."
Why is there an exponential decline in quality from undergrads to postgrads and subsequent PHDs? Simply because higher studies in India today are not a matter of choice but more of a compulsion. When you donot have good jobs and pay scales to encourage MTechs and PhDs, why ask the institutes to waste their resourses?
And then the few top quality scholars who do stay back, end up working in MNCs and are thus not doing good to any of your yardsticks.
Hope Joshiji wakes up in time....

IIts,IIMs?
by Navin on Jan 28, 2004 02:23 PM

I strongly suggest that government should come out with some rules that can bring down the fees of these premier institutions. As per the present situation the fees in these institutions are beyond the reach of the tallented common man.Because of the heavy fees a person who is tallented and inteligent cannot afford to study in these institutions though he gets a seat.
I suggest to abolish the group discussion which is a boon to only elite class people. So I suggest the govt to take stearn action to bring down the fees in these institutions

Why compare with US?
by Raj on Jan 28, 2004 02:14 PM

I can not get why Joshiji is comparing IIT/IIMs with US university. Why do we want to set our standards based upon other's standard. Doing this only proves that we do not have our own mind, and we must imitate others and follow exactly the way others behave. This is shameful.

RAJEEV CHADHA
IIT's / IIM's
by RAJEEV CHADHA on Jan 28, 2004 02:09 PM

What rubbish on the part of HRD ministry and Mr. Manmohan Joshi.
Arn't they aware of the fact that its only because of negligible interference from political leaders, these institutions are regularly producing quality output. Our dear minister has even gone to the extent of chanelling the alumni grant for these institutions through some nonsence fund.
The increase in N0. of students or reducing the fee structure in these institutes will definitely hae a negative impact on the reputation and quality of students passing from these Institutes.

Joshi is right..
by ssp on Jan 28, 2004 02:09 PM

M.M Joshi is right. What he is doing now is a demand of time... insted of glorifying one section or other , we must see them in black and white. As a Tax payer why should i pay for those alumini who are happily catering the needs of their Gore-Sahebs ( White skined foreign bossess), rather than the my poor country men who needs a basic education most.

GOD Bless NDA. We need MM Joshi again as our HRD minister.
