Great Article
by Saurabh on Aug 12, 2004 11:02 PM

Mr. Banerji, great series of article.

I wonder if someone from rediff could write an article on what make brilliant brains from various institutes go outside of India. If the kind of information that is provided in this article is understood by students before coming to US, maybe a small part of them will think something can be done in India too.

The kind of strugle we go thru in coming to US and doing something - same amount of effort spent in India looks more glorious now then it did before I came to US.

Maybe we need to glorify such kind of efforts more than the efforts that are done by NRIs in Silicon Valley. That will give the coming generation new options to look up to.

Marketing Innovation is the key to USA's Success
by DSK Rao on Aug 12, 2004 10:57 PM

Before we start eulogising innovations of USA , let us all stop for a moment and see the truth on the innovations which made big money for USA and also identify better innovations which just did not see the light of the day & what makes this difference.

1) Coca Cola / Pepsi / Potato chips are the Trade Marks of America. Everyone knows that they are harmful to health. Our Maaza(Fresh Fruit Juice) , Coco Nut Milk Drink(I am sure none of you heard even about the product) etc saw any big business though they are definitely better , because they lacked the techniques of Sponsoring mega sports events or mega advt. budgets with the popular film stars/ sports stars vouching for them
2)Billion Dollor Baby Food industry which was created with half baked ideas vanished literally overnight when our baby supplements never are even aware. Thanks again due to poor hype creation by us.
3)Now the 'Mad Cow Disease' , result of the hasty western innovation which is putting literally the beef industry to ransom
4)HRT , which was once hyped as the safest and where billions were made by companies
The list is endless. Let us learn to create hype around our innovations. 'Quick Plants' is One.

V hav to start at the primary level!!
by Nikhil Dev A on Aug 12, 2004 08:18 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Readers....
My view regarding the issue that we basically teach a child right from the day one of his god forsaken life to do this and to do that and never bother to fuel their curiousity and to inspire them.V give too much importance to getting our jobs done and leave very little or nothing for others to get creative and be inspired... The whole education system is to be blamed my friends..which give emphasis to memorization and competition right from LKG rather then creativity and talent be in any field ..even sports..So the question is ...v dont invent anything...v dont play sports either...wht r v all doing with our god damn lives ??? Try and give an answer....

Yes, I agree with you 100%.The education system in India is one of the most significant reasons why our creativity is doomed, rather than to shine.Iam studying at Germany for my Masters and when i sit in my class along with my German classmates, i really find it tough to tune in to some basics which those guys do it quite easily, the reason is their education system gives them the space to cope up and come tough in basics, which our system lacks.consequently we lack the skill to innovate and discover.

The Innovation
by rajesh Patel on Aug 12, 2004 04:38 PM

I am glad that this is best column on the innovation the pluses and minuses of the India but I would like to add that this should have the contact details or websites of the organisation or individual innovators where by people can contact from industry, organisations interested and can make best use of this article and it backs the innovation I can say and also should start interractive system for such innovations where by there can be no ramar pillai again. as innovators are afraid of this happening with them so much of the innovations in many fileds are less known to world and Indian even.

So this is my humble request to make such articles interractive and rediff should support such innovations as it is becoming good sites for news and other subjects on the indian sub continent

Hope it will be considered and some mopre indian will come up with ideas and innovations.
Best regards
Rajesh Patel
