The topic of intellectual invasion we are dealing with is pretty contemporary to all of us. I differ here with all said as their can\'t be any parallels between Indians and Americans. We are very different than Americans, why we are discussing technological avancements is just because present economic atmosphere is like that where technolgy sells like anything. Presently we are fighting a servival battel in intellectually intensive technoloy market. We were never use to the western system of working and behaviour. As long as we are enjoying Bollywood movies, we are Indians and not the Americans.
Knowledge demands exploration of human kind, I invite Hargobindas Khurana to come and do something substaintial. We were never independant in this reagrd. We dream of having R & D support from IBM, ORACLE< MICROSOFT and host of other corporations. Why cant a young graduate think betond wall. We have been trained since begining to be stabalize and not to be a bad boy.

Good topic but bad start - 2
by Srinath on Aug 11, 2004 12:22 PM

These R & D centers will do research on anything ranging from quality of salt - design of aeroplane & behaviour of soil in their region.
suppose a particular design comes through fine the same will be sold to an appropriate manufacturing firm & will be marketed under the brand name of the R & D center that developed it.half of the proceeds of the royalty will go to the central government ( for investing in the R & D ) & some portion to the R & D center for developing / innovating the concept.
the person / team involved should also be appropriately rewarded.

It will take us 28 such centers @ an initial investment of Rs500 crores each so a total investment of Rs 14000 crores over a period of 10 years is 1400 crores per year which is very much possible in India..

Innovative technologies exist in india
by AK47 on Aug 11, 2004 12:15 PM

America has been introducing every technology in the last few decades. They are the tech-rulers of the world at the moment. India doesn't just need technology (innovative technologies do exist in india), it needs the political will to defy the US (WTO, UN, etc) as any new tech will change the face of global politics.

For the new tech to change India, it has to affect the majority of the population. Hence, it has to be in the agricultural and allied industries sector.

A change in the agro-sector will change the manufacturing sector, which till date waits with baited breath for a budget-with-largesse.

Good Topic but bad start
by Srinath on Aug 11, 2004 12:14 PM

It is a good topic but a bad start !!
why don't you discuss american history too in the first episode so that people know that you are comparing a 60 years old country with a 300 years old country.

Infosys & Wipro have dared to innovate by attracting the world's backend office to our country but they have been bad mouthed by somebody who preached free trade some 25-30 years ago.

BPO industry today has the same reputation that textile & steel mills had some 100 years ago in the industrial revolution but our Infosys & Wipro have been opposed not only by people of US but also byt their government clearly dipicting double standards..

we innovated & invented hotmail but because of lack of proper channel to market it had to sell it off to Microsoft.it is because of this hotmail that the world has become such a small place for everybody thus saving billions of $$$ for people across the globe.

we are certainly innovative but the government should take some initiative in it & promote innovation. I would love to see a National R & D center in each district head quarters which will encourage people from that state only to come & do their R & D work on a salary basis.--continued

The article speaks volumes about the sorry state of affairs in Indian Education System. Year after year System is nurturing Humanoids instead of Humans.
