One of the key reasons we Indian IT professionals are so much in demand is our low cost feature. But if we decide to ask the same cost as natives, then why will a foreign company will go through all the pains of sponsorships and visa and all to employ us.They will simply take the native workers, specially now since the native supply is high too due to lower number of jobs and increase in number of native(american.british..etc) s/w professionals.
All these British unions know that and thats why they are crying for BT to pay Indians more, because that way they can get rid of us.
An onsite engineer gets indian salary plus allowance, which is quite a good amount for us and plus we get a chance to see diffrent cultures and all,in short, an amazing opportunity. So dont trust what these British union guys say, they are the competition,
It's certainly a matter of explotation of the indians by the Indian Companies. In the name of offering onsite assignments to the bright Indian engineers these companies are paying them below the bare minimum standards, fixed for the wages. An Indian software professional wage is just a few pounds more tha the amount received by British people who live on unemployment allowance, provided by the state. It's really ironical tht our very own Indian Companies are a part of this explotation games. Engineers coming from the elite & top institutes of India are made to work at low wages forcibly as every body lives under the threat perception of bearing the brunt if a voice of dissent is raised. They are made to sign on papers and documents which shows tht they are paid standards rates for their work but in reality they are not even getting a quarter of their rights in terms of compensation packages. The most shocking element is tht Indians themseleves are part of this dirty game who exploit younger generation and try to make rich dividends for themselves by paying others less. It's high time to think abt it as it is seriously hampering the morale & confidence of younger generation of India.
if they are getting paid in India and the living expenses are paid to them in UK, then where is the exploitation. I assume they would be there on a business visa and in such a visa this is the way salaries are given. This has been happening ever since IT workers from India started going abroad. What is new in this? What has changed because of the slow down? And where is the slow down in the Indian economy? My friend Indian economy has grown at a better rate this year and for your information, this growth has been better than the growth of US, Europe and other Asian economies. Get the facts right before speakin in forums.
This news article is just another deperate attempt of the BT workers union to get some media mileage!
What will happen if tomorrow China or the African nations allow themselves to be even more exploited, and become willing to work for even less than what we Indians are doing? Then these jobs that Indians are getting would shift to those countries, won't they Mr Bansal? Everywhere the corporate groups profit while workers lose out. Today we Indians have taken away jobs of British workers and are so happy and think it is the fruit of globalisation, tomorrow someone else can take these jobs away from us. The workers of the world unitedly need to see through this ploy of companies and oppose such moves with all force.
I used to work for Mahindra BT before. One of my colleagues had been to UK on a BT project.Once While entering the office, the security guard apparently talked to him and asked him about his salary. My friend proudly told about his salary.Hearing this, the guard laughed and said," Sir, I am being paid more than you for this job!"
As far as I know, it is not just BT which does this. Many software companies send their IT professionals to the US to work on projects and are paid in India. And all they get in the US is a paltry amount toward living expenses.
This has been an accepted commercial practice for long with various organizations. After all that is one reason (the low wages) why India is attracting huge employment these days! We need more employment than worry about global equality! Clearly, we cannot aspire for global equality. Not yet! We have some distance to travel for the same and more employment in the country is a must for that. We should get on with our work and deliver the best value possible. Besides, all the software engineers employed by MBT are enjoying good standard of living though the wages may not be on par with the UK staff. All these discussions are for those who have hidden agendas.
