Too bad

There seems to be no reason for the trukers to go on strike. Whatever the truckers have asked for, similar levies are faced by everybody in any other business.
If they find the business is unprofitable they can get out of the business. Nobody is asking then to continue. Somebody else wil takeover. They are having excess capacity and hence are unable to get better prices from their customers. So just imagine if there were less truckers then they would have enjoyed having these price raises so they could inflate their prices further. The government should not give in since what they are agitating applies to everybody.
If they give in tell me why the entire nation should not go strike saying there should be no income tax as at the end of it our job is not profitable and so on.

Truckers strike
by biplab pathak on Apr 16, 2003 08:55 AM

All the sections in the society have organisations except the common man. Everybody can expect something by holding the common man to ransom.Every strike ends up in a rise in prices and i am sure this will also end up so. but who will take care of the common man. Is anybody listening?

A nation gone to dogs
by Shankar Narayan on Apr 15, 2003 05:52 PM

We have become a country of mad dogs. Else how can a sane person explain the reasons for this stupid strike?

1) Putting an end to frequent hikes in diesel prices: Would the truckers have bothered to go on strike if there was a frequent lowering of diesel prices? Come on, let the market determine the price of fuel. Please come out of commie mindsets
2) Immunity from VAT - Ha, so that you can evade taxes and take everyone for a ride. If you are not a part of the value chain then what are you?
3) Repeal order on ban on 15 year trucks- any sane person will disagree. What are you? A gas chamber operator?
4) Fixing of minimum freight rates - again let the market determine the rates. Commie mindset at work again!
5) No toll tax - who are you? VIPs - if you are using good roads, pay up. TANSTAFL, pal.
6) Removing the control on overloading - this is a ploy to kill people on the roads and also damage the roads with super heavy trucks.

So, can someone please give me a sane reason for the strike?

Trucker's strike enters day 2
by Navin Jain on Apr 15, 2003 05:09 PM

This strike sure is a way to blackmail the government and the common man into believing that the transporters of the country are the most harassed lot. Since transportation is an important activity and without it, the nation;s economic wheels can't move they are taking the nation to ransom. Imagine if the salary earners and businesses strike work asking the government to shelve income tax!!
The solution is for the government to downsize and reduce its requirements of taxing people at all their actions. These strikes will do nothing but harm the common man's pockets.

Trucker's unjustified strike
by Shriniwas Pujari on Apr 15, 2003 04:19 PM

This is usual ploy by the trnsporters having done saring business in fiscal closing, they now want to have holiday. It has to be understood that raw material prices in every business fluctuates and the selling prices of the goods or services is market determined. In a nut shell those of them who can competetively provide serviceare doing roaring business whereas for others who want somebody else to pay for their inefficiency, there is no way even by going on to strike.
Outdated vehicles necessarily have to be phased out and once that happens, due to demand side pull the freight will automatically increase , which is the real grouse of these transporters.

Govt. should get a lesson
by Sachin Rokade on Apr 15, 2003 03:53 PM

Govt should come to know that the entire world is depend on transportaion & if the transporters are not happy financially since they have to pay so many taxes, toll & even officials, then what is left with them?. Therefore, Govt. should get good lesson & should realise the pain what tranporters are facing.
