PCR is impractical ir real world scenario
by Sreejith R.S. on Sep 18, 2018 09:35 AM  | Hide replies

PCR has not been recognised as a st6andard of care for day to day infections for some reasons. the test are enormously costly, time consuming and even though there are almost near absolute sensitivity and specificity in studies, practically all my PCRs cane negative for organisms and clinically responded to antibiotics.with so much monumental cost of investigation and the halo always takes a clinician to the end of road looking into endless darkness. this seems like a marketing article, already fell for it ,,not anymore. discuss with your doctor before going ahead with such investigations.

doctors are more concerned abiut antibiotic resistance than the author would like to believe, and an ICU is not a setup where you hold back treatment for impreactical righteousness than the life vs time race at stake. the first priority will be saving a life. and for the scientifically questioning ones, there is something called NNT |(number needed to treat) and NNH number needed to harm, which governs these decisions and not feelings of righteousness

resistance to pathogens !! ??

Such indiscriminate use results in resistance to pathogens -- It results in resistance to antibiotics in pathogens. not resistance to pathogens.
