Plastic or Metal Clutch pencils are the answer. However, today they ar eavailable only in 0.5 and 0.7mm size which is inadequate for school work where we need 1mm size of leads. It is very easy to revise the design. Then no paper is needed, these clutch pencils last quite long and need no wood/paper.
