NEET: The CBSE Factor
by susarla suryaprakasam on Sep 22, 2017 10:08 AM

Yes, because their standard is so poor, if some one asks what is Newton's law, they will ask 'who is Newton'. Then if asked Mendel's theory or Darwin's theory or advantages of Pythagoras theorem or Pascal's law or Vth period in Mendeleev's periodic table, these intelligents will reply that this is all in CBSE syllabus and we are disadvantaged. We know only how much to pay as donation or how much to get a degree, even Ph.D.

TN needs to improve standards
by R Swaminathan on Sep 20, 2017 06:10 PM  | Hide replies

TN board standards need to improve.Their marking is absolutely beyond logic in state board exam. How so many people get 100% in not only science but in arts, languages etc.Based on state's poor standard and reservations and marking all seats go to them.Hence the hue and cry.NEET is a standardised merit rating, and is the best form of uniform evaluation.

Students from remote village and poor cannot take NEET coaching classes, it is not possible to give uniform education to all. Most of the students who got admission has taken coaching for a year (mostly from CBSE) and got this admission. So that justifies even CBSE students cannot get admission with out coaching. Only coaching centres to benefit. Both curriculum are good (state and CBSE) but the process of study is different, it does not mean, one is superior and other is inferior.E.g.Pachyderm,Mastodon,Mammoth all means the same, if you have not hear it, it does not mean you know nothing about it. These are other words for Elephant.

I think TN students
by Janas on Sep 20, 2017 05:12 PM  | Hide replies

are being taken for a ride by the corrupt politicians of TN. And Centre instead of addressing the students' concern is doing what it thinks is right. This way, BJP will alienate the youth of TN who otherwise are a peaceful lot. If NEET only favoured CBSE students, why have students from other states accepted it? Or have the students of TN become so lax that they want only freebies and no hard work?

No. of Medical Colleges are highest in Tamilnadu than rest of the nation. Other State students have got benefited more than TN students. First Medical College in the nation started in Tamil Nadu, first women medical student in India studied in Tamil Nadu. Let us worry about the students and their future. NEET not favours CBSE alone, it favours NRE, Foreign Nationals, Indian Origin etc. If you can get hold of other data, you will land up in to many more surprises. Tamilandu it has come to light, other states once they have data, there also things will be a worrying factor.

Why only Tamil Nadu people are crying against? The other states have smoothly accepted it. Do other state teach only CBSE curriculum?

Is it so difficult to verify the Board-neutrality of NEET
by Chaitanya on Sep 20, 2017 05:05 PM  | Hide replies

Critics of NEET say that NEET favors CBSE syllabus.

For the recently conducted NEET exam, is it so difficult to verify the truth behind that statement?

Let govt appoint a panel of academics from CBSE as well as TNadu State Board to verify the truth.

Neither side (pro and against) should have any objections to this, if they really believe in their respective stands.

Dumb statistical interference
by Vishwas Murhekar on Sep 20, 2017 05:04 PM  | Hide replies

If 34% admissions belong to CBSE, it means 64% belong to state board. I fail to understand how NEET is biased against state board. Will writers explain??

I guess it's not just about the 34::66 ratio of CBSE and State Board.

It's the fact that 34% of the seats went to CBSE students, DESPITE CBSE students forming only a TINY FRACTION of the applicants.

That's a genuine statistical indication, I believe, that the NEET is heavily loaded in favor of CBSE syllabus.

@Vishwas Murhekar:

Continuing with the statistical perspective, it might be premature to conclude from the above, that NEET favors CBSE.

There might be other hidden statistics at play here.

For example, what if it turns out that majority of CBSE students in TNadu are from urban rather than from rural areas?

It could mean that in the recent NEET results, whatever is appearing as a CBSE majority, is actually an urban majority.

I guess a more proper and thorough statistical analysis is needed, to avoid false conclusions.
