The issue
by Sumit Ganguly on Nov 09, 2017 02:10 PM

The real issue is had the Govt. no other way to implement less cash or digital transaction other than overnight withdrawing 86% of the currency? Govt. literally snatched legal hard earned money of 100 crore account holders and now they are declaring only 23 lakh accounts \" under scrutiny.\" This means nothing will happen to the account holders after so called scrutiny , maybe a token penalty of few lakhs at the most, or else our legal system will take snail pace of 20-25 years.
You decide if the price was justified.

Change in thought
by Mangesh Prabhakar Asawalikar on Nov 09, 2017 12:13 PM  | Hide replies

Demonetization has certainly helped in change of attitude towards using less cash.

However even if one wants to transact online it becomes impossible if the other trader insists on cash payment. Eg. buying milk etc. the trader usually insists for cash payment.

Secondly the transaction charges must be brought down to encourage online transactions

Many traders hide their swip machines or give an excuse.

Charges on card usage need to be removed

If digital transaction needs to be implemented then the 2% extra charge at the swiping machines need to be abolished. In supermarkets it is not charged but other places they are adding it happily.

Better still there should be some incentive both to the person giving and receiving digital payment. It is a very small price to pay if less cash transaction aim (very ideal goal) is to be achieved.

I agree. No one wants to pay additional 2% just because he wants to pay by card. Especially where amount is not insignificant. Govt must make the additional charge an offence. Even then, I am sure businesses will increase the price to include the 2%.

Cashless transactions

First let the Govt. stop accepting cash for collection of any tax in cash. Even the GST. Lead by example.

CASHLESS TRANSACTIONS.
by NG Nileshwar on Nov 09, 2017 07:45 AM

Do not expect to go cashless.
First provide accessibility to being cashless. Every one wants cash. But to transact, internet availability is the main issue. It is very difficult to have internet access. First improve this.
Next issue is protection from internet frauds. Protect me from frauds.
Thirdly, assure me that fraud will be prevented or fraudulent transactions will be compensated without hassle.
Next come the cost of a transaction. After spending, you want me to pay a charge for transacting in the internet.
All this is only to transform the country's economy to become cashless. Yes I am willing to do so, provided the above is taken care of.
Else, I will transact through normal banking channels. Withdraw all currency above Rs. 10/-. I f I have to transact in cash, I should carry it in notes of Rs. 10/- or coins in hundreds.

You may be right, but if banks don't do that, how will they get the funds to dish out NPA loans?

You should not buy loose cigarettes. They are more dangerous as they could be spurious.

loose cigarettes is not the focus here, it is about making cashless payment for small expenses especially to labour class persons and they are still taking cash...

if they buy the entire pack, then the wives will kick them out of the house, and they no longer can tell the kids not to get into the smoking habit.

Then they will become really cash-less.
