Oh, don't worry too much about the reputation of Indians in America !
Most mainstream Americans (meaning white Americans; that is the truth indeed, is it not?) hardly know or even care to know that there is a distinct community called Indians !
They know very well about American Indians (or Red Indians). But Indian Americans ? Blink...blink..oh, who cares would be the thought that passes through their minds !
She is of Indian origin but that way most Americans are of Irish, German, British or Scottish descent. Notions of citizenship are undergoing radical change. You could be an American but still have ties to your ancestral country. In Reshma' case her ancestral country is Uganda & not really India. But since we Indians are racist to the core we will always prefer to owe allegiance to India rather than a black African nation. That is the bitter truth & we in India are happy to perpetuate this idea.

Every person in a particular region on earth has its own unique DNA. Indians have similar encoded DNA. This DNA tells us to identify like minded/look alike/non-threatening objects. This is not racism. This is human behavior. why do you think Americans call each race by their color and ethnicity?? to identify them of-course! Its not racism to identify someone from their visual appearance. Racism comes into picture when someone tries to use the identity for nefarious purposes to create anti-social environment

Just because she was born in Africa, doesnt mean she will be black. Why do you think blacks born in America still refer themselves as African or Chinese, Koreans as Asian and white people as Caucasians or Europeans? DNA or race doesnt change with nationality.
