Indian top universities produce top class students only to send them to foreign countries for their development so that India would always be under developed and depending on foreign knowledge/ technology, part which is developed with the assistance of Indians. Salaries are given to these toppers not only because of their service in the foreign country but also partly for their absence in the native country. So, we should compulsorily keep a portion of the toppers in India so that their services/knowledge can be used for the nation's development. Until and unless we make such provisions, India will always be in such a place that without foreign assistance, we can not stand on our legs. Many countries in the world were not at one time at the top but today they are. It is because they wanted to be independent from other countries's help and they have seen to it that they are at the top. The are also manufacturing and standardising some items with best quality and marketing at competitive price. We should also follow them to come to that standard at least in some items, where India is placed with inputs/raw materials. Indian labour is cheap and hence we can sell the manufactured items at lesser rate than many countries. In that case, foreign buyers will approach India to buy on long term rate contract basis. In that case, there will be continuous optimum production of such items. This will give continuous service for some of the unemployed. Jai Hind. Jai Bharat.
These rankings must be based on research work done at these universities. It is quite disturbing that we do not have a single, truly global university where researchers from different parts of the world congregate.
With probably the largest student population in the country, India should have had at least one university which is ranked for quality of teaching. It wouldn't be so difficult, but for the political environment in our universities. We pride ourselves in having ugly ideological warfare and street fights in universities, notably in Delhi. The University of Hyderabad made a great beginning but has slid into anarchy with racism of the worst kind. Not just the dalits, the north-eastern students also face discrimination due to their eating habits!
IIT Madras is also in the news more for caste wars and less for scholarly achievements. Late Prof Indiresan, one recalls, ignited that many years and the institute is now a muddle, with its professors who are really bureaucrats masquerading as academicians.
Nalanda, headed by Amartya Sen could have made the beginning as a global university but has already slid into political and ideological marsh

forget taxila and nalanda, the universities in Delhi, IIT Madras and Univ of Hyderabad are getting destroyed by caste wars and political fights of the worst kind. With such mindsets, it is a miracle, or probably match fixing, to find even three universities getting into the list !
