What Industry?
by Aravind Nair on Jun 16, 2017 02:06 PM

Real industry and real economy have to do with production of real physical wealth. Employment opportunities go up when real industry thrives and grows.

This article, as is the tendency with all such write-ups, talks only about the vapourware called IT. Look closely at the photograph. How many of the gadgets, including the laptop, are designed, developed, manufactured in India? What is our trade deficit vis-a-vis hardware versus software?

People and govts. obsessed with IT don't bother with physical reality. You don't need Engg. Colleges to produce good code writers.

Jugaad is ok, but we need reform too

You can trust Indians to survive, whatever the odds. We will overcome and commoditize the skills, irrespective of the quality. Chinese make affordable innovations, we offer services affordable - we still relish and cherish the cheap labour and zamindari dreams, even in torn clothes and ramshackle way of life

It is a miracle that we aren't a demographic disaster yet. Or probably the mainstream media, MSM, is kept busy chasing scams for entertainment value.

It is never late for a society to invest in primary education and health. But that is only possible when people and politicians think long term for the well being and future generations. If one survives long enough, there is a fleeting chance one can partake a slice of life before departing this world - just for life's sake, what else ?!
