In olden times our elders used to fixup a boy/girl from own relatives or known friends from neighbouring villages,for marriage and both sides knew complete family history of each other including boy and girls character& temperament,property etc,so question of cheating or harassing for dowry didn't arise.Same way boys side knew that if they harass or ill treat girl,all gentlemen who were witness used to question boys family.That's why those marriages succeeded till end.But now situation is entirely different and that's why 30% marriages failing leading to divorce.&50% girls pull on the marriage with compromises unhappily resigning to their fate& destiny

Modern educated girls are shrewd in deciding to take divorce within a year of marriage before becoming mother of a child.Because in our Hindu society,women with child are not preferred by eligible bachelors ,as they feel child is liability.once wife realaises that it is impossible to adjust for lifelong with temperament/habits/vices of husband,better discuss with hubby for separation on mutual consent,instead approaching courts ( taking even 10 yrs if husband contests& wants to harass her with revenge)
