Jigardanda and Nair Mess.
by Gladyschellam on Apr 08, 2017 12:56 PM  | Hide replies

NAIR MESS: situated in Bells Road, Triplicane, Chennai: I was a regular customer during 1971-76. A different taste among Non Veg dishes then available in Madras.

IDIYAAPPAM: People prefer with PAYA - But it would be nice with cocunut scraps, sugar or with cocunut Milk.

JIGARDHANDA: Madurai is famous for this which must have been available from late 90s - most delicious - now avaliable throughout TN.

HALWA: is the most delicious sweet which is more popular in Tirunelveli. Though it is available throughout TN, being prepared in Tirunelveli is so good. More than 250 years ago, two Rajasthani brothers settled in Tirunelveli seems to have introduced this. It was told that Halwa in Tirunelveli is so good because of the water from the river TAMIRAPARANI. Still their generation is living here as Tamils - the present generation has forgotten their mother tongue.

one of my relation (whose family lived for three generations in delhi) has forgotten his mother tongue tamil . so, you mean " is there any option apart from forgetting their mother tongue? You xxxxs will kill people for speaking anything else than xxxx"c.. and you are talking about 250 years almost 9-10 generations. Com'on this quite common all over.

a very very tasty thing famous from madurai (my birthplace) .Its origin is unknown, may be it means - it keeps "Jigar" (heart) and "thanda" (cool) for the summer .a rarity that such a hindi word in tamil , is totally considered "tamil original" ! someone can clarify ..
