Its beginnings were not very good. They had a large number of mediocre British faculty who got paid a lot more than professors at British universities although they were below par. The first good scientist there was probably C V Raman. The Institute came up because of his efforts as Director. But the second rate people forced him to resign.
What ever ranking we read or talk, IISc Bangalore is generally at no. ! position. It is the work culture being developed by its founders great like sathish Dhavan and other as well as its continuation or preservance or maintainace by the people at later stages and up to now. Any one associated with education field in general and from north indian states in particular must visit this institute once in their life and early will be better to have a change in their attitude towards the aim, role and level of education in life. Students, teachers and staff all are dedicating to stand to the reputation of the institute and they are doing all their best in maintaining its standards where as in most of the Indian academic institutes it is the decrease in standards of education.
It is a pity that private universities are still behind though IISc is an exception. In spite of trying hard to mire itself in controversies, JNU"s core strength seems to be intact.
