It's not just the surname. But a new family and its property that a women acquires and adopt after marriage. This is not the case with a man. So, if you can get a lot of gems after marriage, why can't you adopt the name of the family? Just think.

in certain states in INDIA property is inherit by daughter from mother and from father to son and it goes to generation.

This is right, I think in North east it is like that, I know it is like that in Kerala. Nowadays it is equal share in properties for both son and daughter. Anyway, property cannot be the basis for change of name.
If you retain surname, 1. History knows you better with no confusion in documents 2. No need to publish in Gazette Many women changes, because she may be unemployed / not secured in society

I agree. This has put many women in difficulty. Those who go for remarriage. Forget history, in these days of terror strikes, fake passport, educational certificates, changing of names should not be encouraged.
