My viewpoint is that this is a 100% political decision and not an economic one. The objectives are two-fold, 1. To disarm political opponents ahead of UP/Punjab elections and 2. To recapitalise the banking system. Alternative: Act on the Panama papers which I previously mentioned. Modi took zero action. Had he acted it would have solved all medium term liquidity problems.
I have 2 questions to Modi fans like you.. 1. If Modi is really the 'holier than thou' kind of leader you think him to be, why couldn't he act on the Swiss bank list from HSBC ? As per BJP social media writers the list only has Rahul, Sonia and Congress chors, so there should not be any problem to act. 2. Why did he let Vijaya Mallya run away on his watch?
Anyhow, this needed to be better executed.. Have you seen what the Finance Minister said some time back? Absolutely ridiculous. As per my sources most ATMs will be functional by Monday. If it is delayed any further then the tide can turn very quickly and can have unfortunate consequences.
However I am willing to wait and see results in 2017 and 2018 as you mentioned and most probably you are correct as to Modi's strategy. Let us agree to disagree till then.

Mr. Sabyasachi Sarkar, Your two important questions is best answered - as per you, BJP social media writers Sonia and Rahul has black money. Can you prove that those writing against Rahul and Sonia are BJP? In that sense, BJP baiter like you cannot accuse that BJP came to power with 36% votes. Hence your arguement is dented here. The second one Vijay Mallya case. Do you mean to say that all the 8000 Crores were sanctioned to Kingfisher airlines between 2014 and his date of escaping? Going by your own logic, then the PM should be a Police Constable or a Gate Keeper to watch who is going out and coming in into the country.
THIS DICISION IS RIGHT BUT THE TIME AND THE WAY HAS TAKEN LIKE A IMMATURED BRAIN, AND TO BUILDING HIS IMAGE AND TO STUNT, AFTER CREATING A CHOAS IN WHOLE THE COUNTRY HE FLEE TO JAPAN?NOT TO FACE THE PROBLEM? WHAT A MARVELOUS PRIME MINISTER IN INDIA.

Too good article listing down all positive effects of the recent act by our greatest PM. Looking forward to see execution of the plan successfully till the end so that country could get the maximum benefit of such a tremendous move....now we need cooperation of each person to make it successful like bankers who will be working on such transactions, IT dept officials and common man to not indulge in activities like exchanging any ones black money on their account. We should be fair to the country and to such good intention initiatives...
Next surprise move may be BANK LOCKERS/ GOLD JEWELRIES ...and followed by real estate properties as no body can escape ...everything is on radar...
It seems like in expensive movie..in last scene use the original bullets so no need to payout to Actors... Even I see big business houses like Ambani etc would be last to catch when all messed up cleaned Jai Hind

what about the millions and millions of black money stashed in swiss banks? Should that also not be brought to India?
