tragedy of indian education system

True, our education system doesn't allow our students to gain command either on languages or subjects taught mainly because the concentration of students for last 10 years is on how to achieve maximum percentage in final exam only to get admission into next desired course and not acquiring knowledge of the subjects. That's why present generation of students have become Race horses mainly because the reservation policy of Gifts both in states & center too as vote catching tactics least bothering about the merit making forward castes like exam preparation machines( as highly meritorious candidates are very high whereas the seats both in professional courses& sciences too.Forward caste students started feeling cursed to have borne in their upper castes see in far less meritorious getting admissions in preference to them.JeediguntaGoa

The problem is that in order to enforce the Caste and an absolutely authoritarian social system the Indian society enforced absence of freedom of thought.

Freedom of thought is very rare in India. Indians need exposure to freedom of thought. It is next to impossible to generate through change of style of teaching. Views of and contact with people who think freely might be useful.

One way to introduce it might be to send children off to a developed country at a very young age, say 4 years. Ten years of stay there might give them some experience of freedom of thought.

Another method is to make videos of life in western society, its schools and colleges, and show in India. Depending on how deep the coverage is, it might be a cheaper way of exposing Indians to the freedom of thought.

Very easy to critisize

Anjuli, It is very easy to critisize. Could you please also discuss some solutions (solutions which are also practical and can help the students earn a livelihood at the end of their studies).

A possible solution is as follows:

Pick any issue of significance to society, for instance this very topic of lack of creative thinking and suppression of curiosity of Indian students, and try to discover all its related thoughts down to the very last logical conclusion. The term "all" is to be taken in a mathematically rigorous sense, not in a layman's sense of frequent every day occurrence.

Use very liberal tests of relevance to systematically enlarge the scope of thought. Even if an irrelevant thought is produced, not much harm is done except a small loss of time through diversion of attention. Carry on that process till either nothing further can be found or a proof of logical completeness is found.

We suggest that in case one is able to carry out the above process, it would reveal the nature of curiosity, creative thinking, and the freedom of thought. The real trick in the whole process is about the tests of relevance, as it is next to impossible to find a thought that is totally irrelevant to a topic of inquiry.

Anjuli your article is highly biased if you are comparing the Indian Education System with say the US. Firstly we teach, coach and train 100 times more students than they do in US. Next the %age of dropout is higher in US who opt (out of choice) to do jobs in transport and fast food counters than study a the university in spite of having a chance to do so.Next the students leave India to go to US not necessarily for better education but because they do not get admissions in some of our premier institutes and also because they use it as a path to migrate to US for a better lifestyle and it is not a drain on our foreign exchange because for the first 5 years of their earning cycle they remit substantial amounts of US $ to their family members until they decide to settle in US and apply for Green Card.
It has become a fad with a lot of academicians, economists and journalists to demean the Indian Education System where they and a lot of others have learnt and are doing very well in life.

There is deliberate effort at the beginning of education to prevent the child from inquiring idly or acting out of curiosity. It is the culture that teachers enforce thinking that it is both a cultural requirement and necessary for discipline. One reason why no teacher deviates from the pattern is that teachers are held in very low regard and have no freedom to change things.

It has nothing to do with quantities of students or other material factors.

In a system where there is absolutely no semblance of teaching in the school due to apathy, neglect and indiscipline of the teachers and the students have to totally depend on tutions, coaching classes and notes from the very same teachers how can the poor students do better. The system on;y fills up the coffers of the teachers and breeds mediocrity.Unless there is a return to dedication, discipline and determination in the teaching fraternity, there is little hope for the future and the few meritorious ones will escape to better pastures abroad leading to brain drain.

There is also a genuine fear due to the threat to stability and peace of Indian society if large numbers of Indians suddenly started thinking on their own. At present the society is peaceful because most of the citizens are cowed down by the social structure and do not dare to be different or exercise any freedom. If people become free they could remember all the oppression and suppression of thougt that has gone on for thousands of years. Some of tem could be angry enough to start breaking things. India has the potential for a civil more destructive than Syria.

DOER VERY LESS SALARY ( KARNEWAL )
SUPERVISOR SLIGHTLY THAN DOER ( KARANE WALA )
FOLLOW UP THE EXECUTION SALARY MORE THAN SUPERVISER ( KAAM HONE KA INTJAAR KARNE WALA )
COMMUNICATOR TO HIGHER LEVEL HIGHEST SALARY ( BATAANE WALA )
NO ONE CAN CHANGE THE EDUCATION SYSTEM TILL THE RESPECT TO THEM WHO ARE ACTUAL DOERS , FIRST QUESTION TO EVERY ONE IS IT YOUR RESULT OR RESULT IS BEING COLLECTED , BELIEVE ON BEST DECISION IN PLACE OF TAKEN DECISION TO BE EXECUTE .

Indian Education system

Poor evaluation system at institutional level, immature desire to get degree (not learning) among students, over emphasis on social media sites by students, set up of educational institutes by politicians and focus on getting more and more students by institutions have destroyed our education system.

It will not only take a long time to recover the damages done but also an honest will at government level for a sustained period of time, which is really difficult to get.

Country will keep on losing talented workforce to foreign countries and domestic industry will be struggle to get well educated and trained people for growth.

This is a rapid spreading fatal disease for future economic growth which unfortunately very few are able to sense. Consequences could be devastating for nation and society if appropriate changes and not brought in education system very soon. - Rajesh R

There is need to start writing psycho active software such that the ideas of freedom of thought could be activated in minds of people. It must be possible, but has to be developed and released to public.

Even the precise definition of spontaneity, curiosity, and freedom of thought is not known and needs to be told with illustrations.
