What about Ragi (finger millet) and Maize corn?
by gururaj upadhyaya on Aug 01, 2016 10:15 AM

These are also consumed by considerable population in India. Can we get any comparison. Can we add barley and oats to this list?

Choose whichever you want

I think it really doesn't makes much difference. Scientifically, rice is superior based on some of the following points:
1. Wheat contains gluten which is linked to many diseases
2. Wheat protein is less digestible as compared to rice's. So, even though wheat contains more proteins g/serving, the actual % body benefit is less.
3. Wheat has higher level of saturated fat which is not good for health.
4. Rice can be stored longer than "atta". wheat flour will get oxidized rapidly as the surface area which is ready for oxidation is millions times more than that of each rice grain.

So, if your are going for chappatis, opt for multi-grain atta, and if you opt for rice, consume with lots of vegetables.

it is bcos when you change from long diet habits (eg. changing from rice to chapathi/roti) you tend to eat much lesser and body cannot cope the new/changed diet efficiently. This could be initially but iam not sure after sometime whether the effects are same..

Rice is quickly digested than wheat and hence the sugar level raises as quickly and sharply than wheat. Wheat takes little more time and hence the sugar level raises slowly but not to the extent of rice. I am sorry that I am not able to specify as per medical terms.

Instead taking three times diet intake same quantity could be spread to five times intake which could restrict sugar level.

Large number of people have gluten intolerance and they cannot have chapatis. Also you have missed that rice is good in summer and chapatis in winter. Rice (khichdi) is much easier on the stomach if you are prone to acidity.

This regional mindset used to exist in the 1980s. Most of India has moved out of this.

There is very less difference between wheat and rice when it comes to nutrition value..only difference is wheat is a complex to breakdown and hence the rate of digestion is slow and one cannot more quantity of wheat you fill feel full and you go long hrs without having much food..on the other hand people shld not simply switchover the diet as you wish..it shld be done step by step..becoz ur body would have adapted to a particular food

If you are a weight watcher?
by V Nagarajan on Jun 29, 2016 06:00 PM  | Hide replies

If you are a weight watcher, then it is easier to keep a count of chappatis that you eat. With Rice it is a bit more difficult. You can change over to Millets or Multi grain Atta if you are diabetic. Both Ashirvad and Pillsburry are selling it.

What is the use
by ganesh pillai on Jun 29, 2016 03:34 PM

If one does not exercise or at least walk, one can't expect to be healthy.

Avoid sitting if possible and be active when possible or one will get indebted to diabetes and other lifestyle diseases
