In the past scoring 90s even in English subject was a dream. Forget 90 but if you score 70 in English it was considered a good score. Those days English teachers were strict in giving marks. Nowadays students are getting more than 95 marks in English. The education system has become more objective oriented. It is more of memory than of application. The education system should be such that it should be easy to pass but difficult to get good marks. Coaching classes only focus on how to score marks without any thought to learning the subject properly. Many students score high marks by just referring to past question papers and even boards also include such questions every year which makes it bit easier to score high marks. In the past 90 percent club was very less but now it has increased considerably that now even 80 percent looks average. After few years when we appear for job interviews no one is going to concentrate on how many marks you scored but how well you understand the subject or the job profile or your current market awareness etc. Ya agreed marks do play an important role in initial stage but in later stage your practical experience is counted and marks take a back seat. If marks is scored by understanding the subject properly then only those marks have value otherwise it is plain paper degree. The education system needs to be revamped.
1. Please ascertain standard of his / her school, whether from Bihar or similar such states, 2. I request all universities to conduct on-line test with increasing difficulties with increasing marks basis to bring out originality and depth of subject, 3. Govt. to increase 'A' grade colleges not based on reservations but only talent (other colleges are already there for SC/ST/BC/OBC/Minorities etc.) for merit studets to venture, 4. the fees of these colleges should be such that the college maintenance should be fully met.
This is not a surprise as scoring above 90% is relatively easy than it was earlier. Any student who does not get a 90% is considered an average student. This easy scoring would only give way to mediocrity in education. To negate this effect we should go back to earlier days when scoring even 70% was tough.
Now a days marks are being gifted that's why there is so much problem. Education has now only one aim and i.e. percentage of marks. It was harder in the earlier era even to secure 70 % but now 90% has become common but if you see the time and energy devoted by the students for studies earlier was greater than what what students do now. They are most of the time busy on the mobile phones. Watching movies and spending time on roads. Though marks are becoming higher but standard is decreasing. The only remedy is not to make education a bread earner but a character builder.
This mania for percentages, without any actual grasp of knowledge is the best indicator why jatigat-arakshan had failed us as a country and we are producing graduates who are not fit for employment.
