I had few run ins with ATM but thankfully have not had the occassion to lose money. the most hilarious was in 2008 when in an IDBI bank ATM at DLF Qutub Plaza in Gurgaon DLF Phase 1 , the power went off just before my money was released and as a result neither I got money nor the card . When I complained to IDBI bank they reverted saying that this was a one off incident of UPS malfunction and they are 'investigating' . When I told them that as per the nearby shop keeper and security guards , this is a daily occurance for last 3 months ( gurgaon is prone to frequent power cuts ) and there are similar seen of panicked customers card getting swallowed at least 3/4 times every day , I never got any further reply from IDBI bank . The second issue was , when I recieved a replacement card from the bank , it came along with a card replacement CHARGE. thankfully on informing that the card replacement was on account of banks deficiency of running an ATM without power backup , the charge was reversed
