It is not a problem but anyhow has been made. Leave every word aside "Madam" is the appropriate word to address Smriti Irani since she is Madam. Trust she will end with it. Most previous regards to Smriti Irani.

if any uneducated sitting in HRD minister it is our duty to respect as Hob'ble and not any thing because it is our duty to give respoect to their post either she is celebrity or not.
It will be appropriate to address as Dear HRD MINISTER SMRITIJI.............. But addressing as Dear Smriti Iraniji is not at all wrong. Interpretation of DEAR should not be perceived in a negative way. Generally every person (male or female) is addresed as dear and this word DEAR is a mark of respect and nothing else. Smriti Irani is making it as an unnecessary issue and this shows her mean mentality as well as her educational background.
This is small issue which varies from person to person,civilisational issue,but nothing offensive to receive so much of attention.One would reckon this lady is too loud mouthed.Must keep quite for a while.
We Indians have a typical mental blockade when it comes to respect a lady. A civilized person always respects a lady irrespective of her color, age, religion, education etc. Our culture does not support calling a lady dear. Even in schools we have been taught writing Adarniya. Debating on this issue shows how limited thinking capability we have. If a lady wishes to be called dear, call her. If she objects leave this to her. In India, the education system is entirely corrupt. We teach students how to mug-up. No space for ethical learning. We are paying the price for the same.
