I have been travelling overseas since 1984 and was lucky enough NOT to fall in any tricky situation where I had to use Travel Insurance. My recent expired Policy from TATA AIG proved a point that all travel insurance policies are to earn money. On may way back to New Delhi from Shanghai via Hong Kong, I missed my connection to Delhi due to bad weather. I spent a total of USD 250 for 24 hours and what I got was Rs 1624 as compensation. Ridiculous. All are Thieves in the name of Business.
'With a travel insurance plan you can make your trip virtually risk free. A good travel insurance plan protects you from the unwanted situations arising during the journey'. This is not really true as even after taking the travel insurance the physical risk will remain. Only the financial burden from the covered risks will be lessened.
