I will share an interesting philosophy of banks. HDFC Bank does not give loan/cards to their own customers who are working from home. Every month salary is deposited in their bank in Usd from an MNC out of India but they dont consider it! What is end result? customer taking all those facilities from other banks. Only good thing is, they give better conversion rate so customer has not closed account so far but u never knw till when.
I have exactly the same issue with Stand Chart bank. But I manage to get my money back. Also Please raise your concern at ' Banking Ombudsmen' section in RBI site.
Recently I deposited a little over Rs. 200000/- in ICICI bank in person. The teller told me after depositing the money that a transaction fees will be deducted for any amount above 200000/-. I had been depositing such amounts for years and never paid any transaction fees before. The teller had deliberately withhold this information from me, firstly he did not told me about this change of rule promptly and then he revealed about the transaction fees only after the deposit was initiated. If alerted on time I could have deposited only 200000/- and rest on my next visits. I had a good opinion about ICICI until now but with this I completely lost faith in it. I did emailed my complaint and the answer I got is I need to pay the transaction fees, no apologies nothing. In the name of technical errors, human errors, sudden change in policies, sudden change in rules and regulations and scores of such other reasons these banks loot common people like us and give red carpet welcome to cheats and goons like Mallaya and people like him.
While both Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) and Debit/Credit Card are electronic, low probability of error is always there - just like our personal computer hangs-up and we restart to continue our work for that we do not blame machine manufacturer or service provider - electronics error is just like a cancer cell - nobody would know when it would get activated and for what reason though basic reason is power supply fluctuation. To avoid getting into a soup, whenever such a thing happens, please do not leave ATM booth, from there call the Bank (whose ATM you are using) and log a complaint then and there itself. I did it when my card got stuck in an ATM at a petrol pump, Bank person came, opened machine and returned the card without any problems / loss of money from my account.

ICICI stands for Inefficiency, Callousness, Intimidation, Corruption and, Indolence. Long back, I took a vehicle loan from ICICI. On accepting an assignment abroad, I wanted to foreclose the loan. They levied winding up charges for the foreclosure, promised to return the unused check leaves but never did, and then submitted a check for clearance. My bank refused to clear the check as I had told them about the foreclosure. ICICI, instead of correcting themselves, submitted a check the second month too. They called me and warned me against the consequences of checks being returned uncleared. Following this, I went to their office with the original foreclosure documents and this time threatened them with a Consumer Grievance complaint against harassment. Only then did they stop pestering me.
I HAD MANY PROBLEM WITH ICICI ATMs AS THEY DO NOT WORK AT ALL. BUT THEY ARE VERY ALERT TO DEDUCT THE CHARGES WHEN WE OVER USE OTHER ATMs AS PER THE LATEST RULES. I WROTE MANY EMAILS, CALLED UP THEIR OFFICE BUT IN VAIN. FINALLY SAID BYE. LOOK AT HDFC EXCELLENT SERVICE PROBABLY THAT IS WHY THEIR RESULTS FELL SHORT OF REQUIRED NUMBERS.
