About such coaching centers ...
by Holiest Cow on Apr 24, 2016 01:29 PM

Now, a lot of negative comments about such coaching centers presented in this poorly researched article will obviously find their way into the comments section - that should NOT be a surprise!

Why do I say that this article has no taste? Because, from the tone of the article, it appears that the writer does NOT realize, attending such coaching centers is only a necessary condition - not sufficient condition to make it into the top medical schools in India. Sufficient conditions, which are missing in this article boils down to the "student" and his/her sense of purpose ultimately. Coaching centers such as what this woman writes here is only a "means to an end" and not an end in itself.

The only ones I know who succeed with such intense coaching to crack the tough medical entrance exams are NOT those who are able to solve a problem in 30 seconds "because" they had access to a host of tough question banks that toughened the brains, as this article points to ... but, quite the contrary. You cannot solve Physics/Botany problems "by rote memory". You need to know Physics/Botany in-and-out. 'Kota is a raucous, garish free, market in education with an almost hallucinogenic feel.'

What a pretentious and ostentatious writer.

Agree! She also writes: "Four brothers who own a coaching empire, their foreheads bisected by identical long red tilaks, advertise their wares from hoardings scattered across the city."

Only Hindus can tolerate such glib remarks passed about how they display their religious affiliations. Let this dame try doing a similar thing about the dark spots on the foreheads of Muslims; she would be Late Anjali Puri by now!
