Those who don't usually practise any Hindu religion/ritual they also get up early in the morning ,go to Puja Mandoop and offer prayer and take Anjali (Blessings) of Ma Durga.

Behavioural pattern.
by Debasish Bagchi on Oct 21, 2015 10:58 AM  | Hide replies

I got the spirit of the post. But similarly, why dont one writes about typical ways the Biharis behave during Chhat Puja, the Punjabis during Lohri, the Christians during the X-mas, the Muslims during Ramdaan?

One should think about it. no point in singling out the Bengali community with their change in behaviour. The post is highly generalized and does not reflect the mood of an average Bengali.

Beacause our 'Durga Puja' is world famous. Do not be worried to be discussed by others. it is just because you are famous!

Remember Bengalis comprise close to 10% of India's population. They are the largest in number after Hindi speakers. And they are a very visible and distinct community across the country and the world for decades if not centuries. Like every community, they also have their idiosyncracies. So what's the harm in writing about them? There's no need to be sensitive about that.

True! Very sarcastic touch. Actually festivals of every religion/region are celebrated more or less in similar fashion. After all, festivals are to enjoy! What's wrong in it??

In Mumbai, yes. But you have to be in Kolkata during Puja to know what Durga Puja in Bengal is. Every community is not the same. All of them have some distinct characteristics. There is less of religion and more of fun and entertainment in the way Kolkata celebrates Puja.

Problem of freedom of Speech is that... someone or the other always has a problem with someone as trivial as an article on Durga Puja. Too serious in life.
