Deccan Queen pantry has been good throughout. But not many people other than regular travellers, know that the Dining Car is NOT for second class travellers (they being second grade citizens(?)). This dubious distinction was started during British Raj and is still continued in our "Pseudo-socialist" era.

We also vouch for the comments of Mr. Ramesh Sundaram.
For the past 30 years, we are traelling between Ahmedabad and Chennai by Navjeean Express. We never miss to have our lunch at Guntakkal station and avoid pantry.

There were no diret train between Bombay & Bangalore, during early 60s. If one takes the route via Guntakal, one could pre-order in the Bombay-Madras Express one's dinner at Guntakal - Western Style Dinner. While one waited inside the metre gauge train at Guntakal, one was served a hot tomato soup with croutons & bread butter as the first course by a LIVERIED server in grand style. This was followed with a leg of roast chicken, vegetables, potatoes etc. The dinner culminated with a lovely desert (Caramel Custrd) & coffee. Oh to be well fortified for a journey in the night to Bangalore.dreaming of wonderful adventures.
