The reason our families switched to maggie is mainly due to the laborious process involved in making fresh noodle at home. If someone can comeup with a small portable noodle maker , the we all can make our own maggie @ home
The best alternative to Maggi is the Indian "whole wheat vegetable dalia" in which Maggi is replaced by healthy whole wheat dalia (porridge), has good content of chopped vegetables and Maggi condiments pouch replaced by pure Indian spices (you know what you are adding and eating) to taste. It is fast to cook and delicious to eat, healthy for your body.
Instead of finding an alternative to Maggie Noodles one would wonder is it so easy to exploit the food safety standards of India that it goes unnoticed from the authorites for years till some NGO raises an issue? There are so many packaged food stuff available in the market which would not be safe to consume to the human being unless it is tasted and found out by Non Governmental Agency/Organisation.What is Govt. of India doing in the matter?

I perfectly agree with you. Who bothers about the people? Only when some noise is made and the media blasts it out then the Govt. takes note to show that it is concerned. Actually every Govt. is interested in making their own moolah.
Noodles such as Maggi have always been a health hazard for all especially children. The high content of MSG has been linked to many adulthood illnesses. More than half of Indonesia's population is hypertensive....reason has been found to excess consumption of such instant noodles containing MSG. This is not all. MSG or ajinomoto as we call it is a factor in many other illnesses as well.
We have a recipe that the erst-while Farex copied from: Ragi cheri. This is a sweet porridge made out of different maizes and grains/grams that give a kid (it can be anyone: recipes can be concocted with the same base) a very nutritional meal and also not overwhelm with non-fiber junk. My son, now 10, can swim 4 lengths w/o getting exhausted. After his swimming, he gets a nice glassful of a toned-down ragi malt as a post-exercise drink (no redbulls, energy drinks, etc) Be true to nature and nature will be true to you
Mono-Sodium Glutamate was banned in US in 1969 as it was found it causes damage to young brains. In India it was freely used.I had a tough time in the 80s when my children got free packs of Maggi Noodles at school as promotional efforts.Later on the contents used to show 'Sodium Salts'.Only recently we find the label 'No added MSG'These are double fried noodles containing a lot of fats (around 20%).If excess MSG is found it must be deliberate addition and needs to be banned.Lead poisoning may be due to ground water pollution, but that is not an excuse.
What went wrong with Maggi is not tangible. But a company like Nestle can not go wrong. If the lead percentage is high, they can rectify it. Why so much fuss about it ? After all the kids loved it more than any of our regular dish and even I personally like Maggi better than Dosa and Idli. No sir we can not part with Maggi. No need to invite alternatives because it is proved for the last one decade that there is no alternative to MAGGI. Thanks
Though it will stress our diet heavily still I recommend India to go for fast Jhal Muri made of murmura- a special Bengali diet. It takes to time to consume but test and dietary value enormous.
