the soln. given doesn't satisfy every case, since:
2(6 - 7) ≠ 2
#fail!

to clarify i only have problem with the 'explanation' given. the soln. is fine if you consider absolute differences
if x < y
x - y ≠ y - x
|x - y| = y - x
