Bullet- my second wife
by raj kumar on Mar 25, 2015 08:17 PM

I have been riding a bullet(350-standard 1991 model) since the past 24 years.Ins pite of the lack of modernity as in the new generation bikes-the bullet is predominently mechanical-it is so sturdy since it is mostly of metal; being durable. I take reasonable care to maintain it and it is my second wife

Have seen the "Bullet meri jaan" ad. Can't say that it does justice to this wonderful machine. I would personally prefer if they continue their campaign on the word of mouth and good service.

Well I have an Electra too for last three years. It is showing 50 though I have changed company silencer. I have never gon to hill top like you. but I will narrate my story.Everyday I go to Bhubaneswar from cuttack bu Bullet. You know this is one of the busiest road of world. One night I drank heavily around 7 pegs in a party. My friends advised me to come home by office vehicle keeping bullet in hotel. But I declined and came back by bullet. Summary is that it guided me perfectly to home. It stabilises itself, understands your feeling and never lets you down.

Hey Krushna, even though I implicitly trust the stability of the Bullet, I would still not trust myself to drink and drive it. I am too obsessed with it to put it in any harm's way. I am glad that your electra got you home safe.

I will shortly be posting another article on maintaining the bullet, so that it always remains as good as new. Hope that would help keep your electra in shape too. ;)

It's same for every young man
by Mike Teflon on Mar 03, 2015 07:28 PM  | Hide replies

Every young man treats his bike (yes even 100 cc bike) as his wife. Say after 2 years, the craze goes away..

btw, old wife doesn't command much respect.. does she???

Very true in some cases Mike. However my respect for my Bullet has grown over the years. I had sort of love -hate relationship in the beginning, but now I love it so much that I cannot bear to see even a spot of rust on it. Guess I should have compared it to a wine rather than a wife ;)

precisely! I have been through 40 summers of my life and half of them were good memories with 2-wheelers: Come what may, everyone stands by his/her own choice. I have/had an RX100, that's my pride but I do not expect the current generation to adore the gaadi. Same with Bullet: absolute nonsense vehicle for long-distance rides or cruises - totally uncomfortable

David, I envy you for owning an RX 100.It is one of the cult bikes I would have loved having, In fact I would have even gone for RD 350 if it was in production. Coming back to the Bullet, as you would have seen from my article it comes with its fair share of problems. However once you customize it as per your riding posture (for me it involved replacing stock handlebars with thunderbird ones), It transforms into the most comfortable ride even for torturously bad roads.

Hi Gaurav, I bought the new Bullet 500 standard model released in 2013. I believe it did pass the PDI. But then you can never be too sure with these things. One of my friends got the same model with painting done on the inside of the fuel tank which promptly peeled off, mixed with the fuel and screwed up the engine.

Glad to get a feedback from the authour himself. Wow a new engine getting screwed up like that with paint from the fuel tank would have really hurt emotionally.I hope it was covered under warranty because a lot of engine parts would have been changed. By the way i Own a 1999 Kinetic Honda.I Had bought it brand new and till date use it on a regular basis. And yes I treat it dearly.
